Prices
Each in the currency that store quoted — not converted: the gap between two rows is the publisher's pricing, not an exchange rate.
14 of 15 markets; the rest we haven't asked for this title, not markets where it is unavailable.
Availability
We put this game to every storefront we collect. A market that answered not sold has told us something about the game; a market we never asked has not, and the two are never drawn the same.
Discounts
Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 2/day in the week to Aug 14 → 2.71/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 24 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 9 places towards #1, and the 2,404 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

I was a little freaked out, at first, by all of the changes to the typical X-COM formula made in this game (e.g. individual unit turn order, no permadeath, no randomized troops, etc.), and put the game aside for a few years before coming back to it. I think if you've just finished playing a game like X-COM 2 or Enemy Unknown/Within, etc., you may also have that experience and be initially repulsed from Chimera Squad. That said, the time away allowed me to come back to it with fresh eyes. And I think many of the changes are, overall, not bad. The game does play a little differently from the previous games, but I do think that the changes do sometimes create interesting gameplay scenarios and problems that can be solved in similarly interesting ways. However, I also have quite a few critiques. To start, the mission difficulty ratings are very poorly handled and virtually meaningless after a certain (early point) in the game. I started getting supposedly "Very Difficult" missions within the first couple of hours, and then after a couple more hours they were all listed that way, regardless of actual difficulty. That actually adds some challenge in that you don't know what missions will actually be difficult versus which ones are just listed that way for ♥♥♥♥♥ and giggles. Truthfully, the majority of the game is very easy; I never even had a team downed nor required the use of androids once in my playthrough. However, there are these faction missions at the end of each investigation you do that are genuinely tricky in places, and for which objectives need to be prioritized very carefully. There's usually a trick that once figured out fixes everything (e.g. be aggressive vs defensive), but sometimes it took a bit to figure out. There were maybe one or two knock-down drag out fights in this game, both of which I genuinely enjoyed, and would have liked to see more of. Story is really weak. I don't like that this is basically like a cop dispatcher; feels gross. I liked previous X-COM stories because it felt like you were this small, scrappy international team that simply refused to die, fighting against a nigh unstoppable force. That upped the stakes and made every success and every failure mean more. Narrative in general felt like it left a lot on the table, which was unfortunate. Luckily, in a strategy game, it doesn't matter THAT much because the focus is on the encounter-by-encounter action. In previous games, I also really loved watching these little randomized recruits turn into absolute murder machines; slowly watching them emerge from obscurity and become MVPs. I would develop my own little backstories for them as we went along, and I always, ALWAYS kept on their native languages, so I'd learn a fun bit of Portuguese or Japanese or whatever just by having them on the squad. I just don't feel like we gained enough story or personality from these new named characters to justify losing that. Character writing felt kind of 'Dragon Age: Veilguard', if you've played that game. Bland, safe, jokey, and ultimately pretty boring. Of the post-Marvel era, for sure. I do also think the voiced characters might have stood out more if maybe they had their own unique optional/priority missions or something that tied into their backstory or something (maybe that could have been how you get their badass top-tier weapon). The loss of the armor shredding grenade launcher class was felt most deeply. Chimera Squad has shotgunners and thrown grenades that could do the same thing, but didn't feel as satisfying. I also missed the sniper class a lot at the beginning, but the maps aren't really large enough to justify it, and Blueblood is badass enough by the end of his leveling that giving him a sniper rifle would basically make him a god. So, I get that it wasn't included for balance reasons. But overall, I had a fun time playing it. I enjoyed strategizing around and mastering the new mechanics. Focused on some of the changes things I didn't like here because if you've played the previous games it might be good to know those ahead of time so you can be ready for them. Not bad, but also not the best of the recent releases by a long shot.

14 on sale1 answered “not sold”0 we did not ask
The 1 “not sold” market is read from the Steam price pass of Aug 19: that day the store answered for this game elsewhere and gave no price there. The 14 priced markets are the same rows as the table above — each the latest price we hold, dated here when it is older than that pass. The 0 marked “not asked” were not put to this store at all — either it has no storefront there or we do not collect it yet, and neither is a statement about the game. A refusal is a refusal on one day; a store can list a title again tomorrow.

Probably not everyone's cup of tea, particularly if you're a hardcore XCOM fan. But it's still good and enjoyable for what it is. Combat was reasonable, the story was fair. Just don't expect the traditional XCOM experience.
This game is an insult to XCOM
If you're looking for an XCOM game, this is NOT it. It plays VERY differently, with significant differences, each difference making this game very much NOT an XCOM game, and in a bad way. It's a downgrade in every way. The main difference is that XCOM: Chimera Squad does NOT have regular turn-based gameplay working on the squad-level (i.e. player can control their entire squad and then the enemy controls their units in the next turn and vice versa). No, instead, the turn-based gameplay is done on the individual unit level. i.e. you control ONE unit, and then another unit, and then it's one enemy unit's turn, and then one of your units, and then another one of the enemy units, etc. There are some special gameplay mechanics and tactics that force you to work within and around this system. For example, prioritizing the killing or immobilizing of enemy targets whose next turn is closest in the queue, or using special abilities that move your unit's turn up in the queue. All to give the enemy units as fewer chances as possible to cause harm to your own units. It's an idea that's different from most turn-based tactical games in that regard. But in all honesty... I hate it. I really, really, really HATE IT. It feels restrictive. It feels punitive. It feels ANNOYING. This is not the XCOM game I've been looking for. That's about the core gameplay itself which is already a huge problem. But this game has even more glaring problems beyond the core gameplay: First of all, it's very short (especially if you compare it to other XCOM games). Secondly, the production value on this game is infuriatingly minimal. The story is delivered via 2D graphic novel-like style. A bit like a poorly animated comic book with some okay voice acting. The game engine is essentially the same one used in XCOM 2, with no noticeable improvements. The storyline itself is pretty much meh. Didn't really grab my interest at any point. All in all, this game feels more like a fan-made indie game rather than an official XCOM release. Definitely wasn't worth my time and money, even with the low price tag.
四个警察面对如潮水的敌人你不去叫军队来打非要自己上
It is so clunky and monotonous
Don't know why some folks dislike Chimera - It's solid game. Mechanic to move one by one pawn is quite common in tactical games, here feels fresh, action is bit more parallel. The idea that now humans and aliens try to keep the order in a mess of human and aliens seems quite ironic and very x-com to me - I buy it. It is true, that it's somewhat simplified, but it is also no more a global mission - you now get single, mixed SWAT team to work with. New abilities are pretty neat too. Not a masterpiece, but still quite good X-COM game. No issues under linux.
Characters and voice acting are SO childish and stupid that it was impossible for me to continue playing. THAT bad they are. What the F were they thinking?
