About
Worlds Upon the Wind is a peaceful roguelite deckbuilder about rebuilding a shattered civilization after the apocalypse. Shape forests, deserts, and ruins through careful planning and resourcefulness, rather than conflict. Guide settlers across drifting world shards, nurturing new communities and weaving new traditions as you restore life to forgotten lands. Embark on a journey of restoration and community in this tactical game for those who prefer to take their time and weigh their choices.

Assemble your deck from hundreds of powerful Glyphs and unique Relics, each offering new strategic possibilities. Use glyphs to transform the environment and manipulate your chances with powerful invocations. Craft glyphs, balance your deck, and develop unique builds to adapt to the ever-changing landscape and challenges.

Face hundreds of dilemmas with no right answers. Keep wildlife at a distance or invite them into your cities? Preserve violent artwork or destroy it? Sacrifice safety for dangerous alchemical experiments, or seek harmony at the cost of productivity? Choices shape the outcome of your expeditions, as well as the contents of your deck.

Explore procedurally-generated world shards filled with different biomes, events, challenges, and opportunities. Every choice shapes the fate of your settlers and grants new glyphs and relics to transform your deck. Every run offers unique gameplay opportunities and insights that unlock new skills for future runs. And every budding community you establish leaves a mark, no matter how small.

Pacify restless spirits haunting the world shards, and befriend 15 unique animal companions through their own questlines, each offering a game-changing ability to help in future runs.

Immerse yourself in a unique visual style that traces the evolution of Japanese art from ancient picture scrolls to the different styles of Japanese woodblock prints. Serene landscapes, gentle music, and classical hand-painted scenes invite you to reflect and savor each moment as you're planning your next move.

If you're learning Japanese, this game offers completely optional kanji learning minigames with thousands of vocabulary and example sentences to complete, deeply integrated into the game, as well as options to display titles in kanji or kana, with dictionary tooltips.

Beautiful and calming game that is very informed of the philosophy and culture it's drawing from. You play as "the enlightened one" rebuilding a fractured earth-like world post apocalypse. I would call it a cozy game, but it's also a deck builder and there is light resource management. So much careful love and world building is put into this and it shows. If you like games like Stacklands, FTL: Faster Than Light or Sultans's Game, but don't like constantly dying in them, this is for you. Atmosphere and stress level is more like Stardew Valley. It is cozy but definately not a shut your brain off kinda cozy game. You never feel rushed, you can do things halfway, make breakfast and then continue as you are eating your scrambled eggs. You can redo things over and over again if you're a perfectionist. I played the demo for like 8 hours, was worried for the full release not living up to expectations. I'm glad my worries were unfounded. Gameplay is simple, but there is enough content to play for a couple of days, well worth the 10 bucks imo. I love clicking on the characters that will gradually populate your 'haven' and listen to them wax philosophical or just talk about their lives.

Finally a game where i can relax. It all feels very important, but then you buy upgrades and all that thinking did not matter. It feels both really intense and really calming.
What a breath of fresh air! I was worried it might be an overly complicated cultivation something-or-another, but it's a lot more straightforward than screenshots suggest. Great emergent storytelling, fun to see different cultures emerge, and enough depth if you want it. You can even use it as a Japanese study tool! Probably the most fun I've had with a game in a while.
An excellent game, with clever mechanics and well balanced progression. The art and music are also lovely. An absolute steal at this price!
Make no mistake, this IS NOT one of those myriad chinese spreadsheet games! Winds upon the World is a carefully crafted hommage to Japanese culture and history in a superbly competent roguelite deckbuilder framework. Every system/aspect of this game comes together wonderfully and elevates the final product to something that in my opinion should serve as reference in terms of art, innovation and genre.
Really beautiful deck building game where you're recreating a world through exploration, decision making and your chosen deck of glyphs. It's all rendered in gorgeous traditional Japanese art enhanced by the sound design and music. It's a real treat!
I played the demo for 13 hours and immediately got the full game on release. It's became a soothing daily ritual. I love the gentle, meditative, sometimes humorous narrative moments, the way the map updates to reflect the towns and structures you've chosen to build, the combination of luck and strategy involved in developing a site, and the overall story of this fractured world being drawn together, piece by piece. For people interested in Japanese history and language, the original ukiyo-e art that inspired the game's style is loving displayed and explained in a hub-gallery, and optional mini-games help players remember japanese kanji on all the cards. In a lot of ways, this game as a sincere and aspirational call to action: relax, find community, and make the fractured world better.
A game of really enjoyable complexity without stress - I particularly love the ability to retry rounds with a fixed seed, I think this is not a game that would benefit from false urgency. Lots of interlocking, slowly revealing mechanics, but broadly speaking you receive a new challenge with each new tool, which stops the game from completely trivialising itself. A story that genuinely makes sense, and I love the shard culture system for giving you incentives to play towards unusual or weird goals - it's really helped me avoid running the same strategy every time. I will say that there are some very very centralising glyphs; I see no reason to ever stop myself running Six, for example. But the use to which I put these powerful glyphs, and the way I balance the priority within a specific foray vs my overall shard goals vs inspiration is really rich and satisfying. I am somewhat through the story now and there's still a lot to unlock; I think you could add shard cultures ad infinitum and keep me playing for hours and trying to do odd little playthroughs. Just a really lovely game.
I tried the demo and could tell within a few minutes it was a game I would enjoy. It's a peaceful solo experience, like a solo board game. There's unlocking complexity and a lot of artistry. It's definitely not going to be for everyone, but get the demo and try it out.
