About
Nadir is a dark deck building rogue-like adventure, with its artwork burning of infernal fire and many extraordinary inspirations, the deepest of them coming straight from Dante’s Divine Comedy. The illegitimate child of Slay the Spire and Darkest Dungeon awaits you!
Command an avatar of one of the Deadly Sins in 1v1 fights against powerful demons.
Engage in card battles where each of your cards can be played in two ways, depending on its color: blue or red. Balance between them to your advantage, but be careful, as your every action charges the abilities of the enemy.
Collect red and blue abilities on your journey and combine them into unique double cards, shaping the deck in your own way to prepare for upcoming challenges and survive as long as possible.
Gather resources during expeditions to expand the city of Nadir and unlock new characters, cards, and vendors. Develop your underworld kingdom and increase your chances in future fights until you can beat the boss and unlock new Sins.
Each of the Sins brings their own set of enemies that greatly alter your gamestyle. Learning it and developing a strategy to beat it is the key to building a powerful deck and surviving each fight.
Watch your back as you descend to the depths of Hell. It might feel familiar – from the wonders of the Divine Comedy, to the desaturated aesthetics of Sin City, and the unforgettable design of Hellboy – yet always twisted.
Beware: Abandonware
Game seems to be abandoned by the devs, speculated in the discussions.
Score: 2.5/5
Unbalanced and unfinished, very repetitive. Once you fought a battle you've seen them all.
What's good
+ Deckbuilder game, those are cool, I like games like that + Really good titel art and playable character art and design, they're grim and cool + You can combine the effects of the cards which is a pretty interesting idea as it expands you strategy on how to use the cards + OST works
What sucks
- Cell-shading, this isn't 2005 and I don't enjoy looking at it, only one game managed to pull it off way back then. - Really boring gameplay after a while. - The choice of colors and overall use of it in the game makes every battle scene like a hazy blur to look at after a while - unbalanced here and there, there's enemies that are way too easy and enemies that will make sure you regret playing the game in the first place, then there's the cards, oh boy. Hint: Use Vlad for Asmodeus and Lucifer, and Jeanne for all the others (upgrade Nadir so you have more card combo choices) - Some bugs, and weirdly it is sometimes a bit laggy at some points. - Seemingly no support or updates, there's even stuff in the game saying something like "coming soon"... - VERY repetitive and grindy to collect everything and it quickly becomes very tiresome chore to get resources, I just wanted to be done with. - Hardly any variation, just do exactly the same stuff over and over again.
Summary
Nope, save your money.
- Too Easy - Too Slow - Lacks Strategic Depth + Nice Art Direction + The Dual Card System is Interesting
I really like the concept and art of this game, but the gameplay and mechanics leave a lot to be desired. First, the controls are difficult to use in some areas if played with a keyboard and mouse. When descending levels, the only way to do so is by scrolling. It's incredibly sensitive and the camera view isn't stopped when you reach a level. I couldn't get back to the level I was on by scrolling. When I tried my controller, it worked with maybe 85% of the functions and the rest just didn't seem to have mapped onto anything. While I preferred playing with my controller, I could only do so for about 15 minutes before I ran into something it couldn't do. In-game controls cannot be adjusted or remapped. Second, some details of gameplay were very unclear. Lots of functions weren't labeled or were missing instructions. There was a fight mechanic mentioned in the tutorial with an icon to look for, but I never saw it again and can't tell if it was happening or not. Third, it feels very slow. Sometimes you get several turns without enemies doing anything due to the mechanics. With larger bosses it feels like fights just drag on. There wasn't much excitement. This game feels like a rough attempt to reinvent Slay the Spire, but I'd recommend just playing the original.
I like the concept, sad that there's not a game of it
it has potential to be decent or even great despite of its art style, but now it is abandoned (some quality of life issue) and most importantly it is not balanced eg. a boss can only be beaten by a class, if u choose other class, it will be extremely hard to go through but the mechanics is really unique which is good, if you still want to try it, only worth it if steepest discount
👎 Gameplay wasn't for me. Kept passing out trying to finish it.
Nadir is an okay card game, with an interesting mechanic that forces you to trigger known responses from your opponent as a cost to play your cards. Each of your cards has two sides that can alternatively be played based upon the opponent's available moves. Apparently the company folded before fully completing the game, so the end product is fine, but not one of the better choices out there, particularly not for $20.
