I thought id like this one but Im pretty dissapointed in it. I find the game quite the slog to get through with the levels I played to be far too long winded and repetitive to hold my attention throughout them, this is the only boomer shooter ive played where i just... take a break mid level. I think its really an example of how less can actually be more in that, in such big sprawling levels you're stretching a simple gameplay loop out way too much that the enemies, spells, and weapons, cannot possibly hold up in their quick snappy simplicty. Enemy variety from what I played was a huge problem where it felt that these simple enemies where used in way too many different basic configurations and new elements were not introduced quickly enough which left it feeling stale. Like, I played for 6 hours and most other shooters like this I'd be towards the end of already. And it has more going on but not enough of substance to actually hold that playtime. The enemy encounters were lacking to me as well where there was a lot of times of enemies just being around corners and very silent in a way that felt annoying and unfair, there was a lot of repetitive corner checking as a result. That with the generic fantasy music just completely checked me out as it simply felt excessively dry for something that has the bones of something good. I'm sadly just dissapointed in it and can't really reccomend it. Maybe it'd click more for you but I don't see the appeal in this.
All ground units can and will clip 1/3 to 2/3 into the wall making them annoying to notice/kill. Flying ghosts will clip into the ceiling making them impossible to kill and blocking progression. Helicopters will drop items which will be stuck in... thin air? Winters end tomb secret will push you oob resulting in reset. And where is bloodmage first playthrough achievement? Meh, what a sloppy programming. Edit: LOOOL elderstone mines gem breaks game scripts and save!!!
A very nice boomer shooter indeed. Loved the brand Apogee and this game Wizordum does not disappoint. The difficulty is growing in the 2nd chapter so the challenge is real. Will likely finish the entire game.
I didn't think "wolfenstein 3d but ur a wizard, BJ" would grow on me so well, but it did in such a fantastic way. It's a charming fps that has surprising depth and atmosphere to it. And the oldhead in me really appreciated the many shoutouts to other classic 90s fps games (the secret levels are such a delight). It might be a little on the easy side, but if you're an explorer you'll get a lot of satisfaction out of this game. High marks all around, a definite recommendation!
so I originally found this game through Civvie 11's video on it, and honestly, that video sold me on giving it a shot I spent way more time on this game than I probably should have, but I had a pretty good time with it You really need to enjoy retro shooters to get the most out of Wizordum The game is packed with easter eggs and secrets, and if you're the type of person who wants to find everything with a Steam guide open on a second monitor, expect to spend around 45–50 minutes per level lol The secret levels are great, especially the third one in Episode 3. It absolutely scratches that old-school retro gaming itch i mean sure instead of an HEV suit you get armor but still its like really cool Weapons feel good, the story barely matters (which is exactly how it should be for a game trying to capture that retro FPS vibe), and the level design is generally solid but VERY CONFUSING SOMETIMES IM LOOKING AT YOU SEWER LEVEL IN EPISODE 1 One thing tho the difficulty starts off pretty boring The first few levels are kind of a snooze fest, but once Episode 2 starts, the game wakes up and begins throwing tanky enemies and huge groups at you There's also a castle level with a ghost enemy that does a dash attack and literally noclips through walls, which caught me off guard more than once
it's wizard time ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥
cus thats what ive been saying
Rad retro throwback feels great!
Great game. Picked it up recently (very late to the party) and haven’t put it down since. Actually, that’s not true. I’ve taken a (minor) breather as the end boss is slapping me around a bit. The sound design and orchestration are amazing and the pixelated graphics aren’t just lazy nostalgia-bait. Real thought and effort have gone into the aesthetic and it shows. If I had one (minor) gripe I’d say the method for quickly accessing spells and scrolls never became second nature to me. There are a lot of them (possibly too many?) and trying to remember how to access them quickly in the heat of battle has eluded me. Playing around with the mapping in Steam and making us of the back buttons on my controller helped a little in the end. All in all though, this is one of best retro style FPS games I’ve ever played.
