About

Runeblight is a retro-inspired FPS which takes place in a steampunk fantasy world on the brink of collapse. After having acquired an incredible power, you must take on cultists, monsters, and creatures of the abyss to free the land from an oppressive blight which threatens to destroy everything it touches.
Landing somewhere between Half-Life and Dark Souls (with a hint Thief), Runeblight features tight retro FPS gameplay, a throwback to shooters of the 90s, all within an interconnected metroidvania world.
Carve a path of your own as you fight your way through hoards of enemies, discover secrets, and become unkillable.
Vilaura is a maze of hidden paths. From sprawling cities to haunted catacombs, each passage hides something new. Your survival depends on your adaptability. Equip enchanted daggers, arcane wands, shotguns, and crossbows, each weapon shifting how you fight and survive.
As you explore you will find hexaltars, waypoints between the darkness. You may find yourself returning now and then to paths you've crossed before as new abilities unlock new ways to traverse in this metroidvania world.
In Vilaura, you can find anything from a shotgun, to a wand. A crossbow, or a grenade launcher. Just like the shooters of old, you can carry as many as you can find, giving you a variety of choices for each combat situation.
The world is woven with forgotten magic, its ancient writings buried in ruins, cities, and crypts. Runic powers harken to an age long passed, each one providing you its strength.
Equipping a runic power gives you a unique ability, some more powerful than others.
A plethora of these powers can be found throughout the game, allowing you to mix and match their abilities to your playstyle.
As you grow in strength, you'll be able to equip even more runic powers. You'll need them for the challenges to come.
Rusted machines continue to hum, their gears still turning even as the world crumbles away. Lost ruins and dilapidated castles still pulse with ancient magic. Vilaura has been decimated by an unrelenting plague. Powerful forces conspire to see this land fall into ruin, but with the gift of undying, you might have a chance at ending the blight once and for all. As you explore this forgotten kingdom, you'll find the remnants of a civilization in collapse, and those who still hope for its future—May the moon light thy path.
Explore a diverse steampunk fantasy world. A castle sits next to an industrial forge. A squalid town rests at the foot of a tower guarded by automatons. Secrets wait for you around every corner.
Of those still living in Vilaura, few will be your ally. Occasionally, however, you can find merchants and friends who will help you along your path. Your quest is simple, but there could be more to this story than meets the eye.
Runeblight is a fairly ambitious project given we're looking for the scope of the final game to have a variety of locations to explore, weapons to find, and bosses to fight. Early Access allows us to get content out incrementally, while also getting feedback, which will be essential in shaping the game. We plan to update the game with new stuff over the span of a couple years.

Alongside new levels, we have plenty of features we'll be adding as updates continue:
Controller/Steam Deck Support
Cloud Saves
Steam Achievements
Arachnophobia Mode
Improved Journal & Compendium/Bestiary
Level Respecialization
"Selling" Runic Powers
Weapon Upgrading
Runic Power Variants/Alterations
"Activate to Use" Runic Powers
More NPCs, questlines, merchants, and more!
The game will be cheaper while in Early Access, and you get to help support and shape development.

Really promising game. The movement and the weapons feel great. Very fluid, feels great to just run around dashing and shooting stuff. Difficulty is in a good sweet spot where it's not frustratingly hard, but you'll eat a ton of damage if you get sloppy and don't respect the enemies. Biggest weak point right now are the animations for the enemies. Attacks travel fast and it's very difficult to react to what's coming out until it's already active. Level design is pretty nice, especially the city area, Iresborough. The levels make for good combat sandboxes and once you push through and make some progress, you usually get a helpful shortcut to get back easier if you ever need to. Aesthetics can be gleaned well from the screenshots, but I still wanted to mention them in my review because this is my ideal kind of retro vibe. I just love the look of this world. Solid recommend at this price point. Still needs to cook some more for sure, but dev has been very responsive to feedback and quick to fix issues. And what's here already is plenty fun. Looking forward to what's to come.
i've bought three early access indie games today and refunded two (it's been a rough day). but this? a soulsy, hexeny, borderline kingsfieldy first-person metroidvania about regicide? this is wonderful. thank you devs for making me believe in indie early access games once again.
Firstly, I love the atmosphere and feel of the world, the game itself is well crafted and plays solidly. But this being marketed as a souls-like seems a bit misleading, the game is very easy. The combat just felt a bit lacking, I think if there was more feedback to your attacks, like big bursts of blood, it might help make it feel more rewarding. This game feels like it's begging to have more movement, the dash is nice but having access to slides, wall runs, wall jumps for example would open up a lot in my opinion. Lots of potential though! Definitely worth a play, I’m excited to see how it goes from here.
Atmosphere feels amazing, thanks to both visuals and music/sfx design. Movement is way better than I expected, combat mechanics feel good enough (kind of like dusk). If you like boomer shooters and dark souls, this is a must play.
Excellent OG thief vibes except just running around killing stuff (or being killed). Solid gameplay loop with a unique feel. Will be checking this out from time to time during early access.
A great mix of first person soulslike, and quake style combat. The world is already large and interesting, exploration is rewarded with treasures and notes scattered about, which create the feeling of being immersed in a history. There is a rune system similar to Hollow Knight, and traits that can be leveled up. movement is fast and satisfying, with a powerful dash ability. The game is similar to Frogmonster, though the amount of bosses is limited so far, there are many unique encounters already. I highly recommend supporting this already fun game. Played the demo at Next Fest and instantly loved it! Hard but fair, awesome atmosphere and great music. Major kudos!
pretty good game so far that does things a little different than what you'd normally think of for the retro fps term. filled with great atmosphere and a lot of medieval themes with the pagan twists here and there. the rpg and souls elements worked pretty well especially after some updates. the open interconnected zones is nice and immersing. the combat for me was little rough at first but got better once i got the hang of the movement and using the outside to my advantage when needed.
friggin sweet
Taking a break to pee and want to leave a review. This game is awesome, it's clearly made with love by someone who truly, deeply gets games like Dark Souls and horror like Lovecraft. Seriously, this game is amazing.
