Witches' Legacy: The Charleston Curse Collector's Edition

The first game of Witches' Legacy series, was released in 2012. The story starts off with you discovering you are the only living family of an orphan girl named Lynn, your Charlestons family was killed off by a witch which you must save the young orphan from. I wished the game has achievements or an option to download the soundtracks. The journal looked so good, it gives a good insight into the story and when you collect the pieces of paper, it will give you a clue of what you should do to some of the puzzles. Speaking of the puzzles, they were nice and some of them are unique. A slightly older HOPA game, but fine to play. I enjoyed a lot of it, but there were some definite downsides. [Update: The bonus chapter is good - the right length, nice visuals, lots of HO scenes for an add-on.] Pros: - it was nice to finally play the original game in the series - not an original story, but has some good creative elements (and hints at a bigger picture in a consistent way) - HO scenes were good and about the right number of them; I had some very minor issues with mis-clicks (the "hit window" seemed a fraction off for a handful of objects) Cons: - one BIG downside: there was a LOT of backtracking, and no map - without a map, it's back to basics, meaning you'd better *remember* where you needed that oddly shaped key (or statuette or faucet etc) - the game lacks a number of the widgets we've all gotten used to: no achievements, no real puzzles (I probably shouldn't label it a HOPA, but it's close enough), no collectables All that said, there is a Guide, so if you need help and don't like the Hint button, you have a handy reference. I thought it was still a good game overall. Buy it on sale, or in a bundle. Enjoy the chance not to worry about timed achievements, lol! If you like a very modern feel, this game isn't for you, but if you enjoy ye olde hidden object puzzles then go for it.

This is the first volume of the Witches Legacy series of games, though the most recent to arrive on Steam. You have received a letter from an Elizabeth, who requests your assistance with her young ward, Lynn, last of the Charleston family. Upon arrival at the Manor, you are discover, in the words of Admiral Ackbar, that it is a trap. Elizabeth turns out to be some sort of dark entity seeking to remove any relations that Lynn has. Now you must escape and rescue Lynn from her evil clutches. HO scenes are fun, minigames challenging, and the plot engaging. Fully recommend, though getting in the bundle would be ideal.

Yes, this is an older game. No morphing objects, no collectibles, no fast track map (no map at all actually). That said, if you like HOGs you'll like this one! The scenes (art) are wonderfully drawn and the music is suitably creepy as you progress through the even creepier story. The HO scenes--there's a lot--are very well hidden and take careful observation. You will have to do a lot of backtracking as you earn items used to to unlock things in various rooms, but that's part of the charm imo (You can use the hint button to quickly go from room to room to where your next task is, which is very helpful). I have always appreciated these older games and this one is up near the top!. EDIT: I am playing the next game in the series (Witches Legacy, Lair of the Witch Queen) and I can tell you it's been updated with morphing objects, puzzle pieces, a fast track map and even an imp who helps with tasks. The story continues--not nearly as creepy--following basically the same format. There are a lot more games to play in this series and I see no reason not to continue--they are entertaining at the least!

This is a great HO game. Good story, Because it's an older game, it doesn't have morphing objects, hidden puzzle pieces, etc. This can be a good thing because it means you can just play the game and not worry about finding every last item. I am looking forward to playing the rest of the series.

This game is pretty good. I happened to look at my shelf, thinking what to play next. I've picked this game and it was quite well made. If it happens to be pouring rain outside, this is a good game to play. It has elements of a classic HOPA with real-life characters and modern protagonist propelled in magical situations that she needs to survive or save the someone else's life. A classic gem. PROS: - Beautiful backgrounds; - Journal entries are brief and sharp; - The Strategy Guide is very useful; - The Voice acting is very good; - It contains a Main Game + Bonus Chapter; - Extra folder with wallpapers, screensavers, concept art and music. NEUTRE: - The characters might remind one of the story of Snow White and the Witch; - The Witch is called by the same name as Holly's mother from the game True Fear: Forsaken Souls. CONS: - No fast-traveling Map; - No achievements; - No trading cards; - Repetitive music. All in all, it is a good game to play for any HOPA fan or for anybody willing to discover new experiences as a Steam player.

Not bad. Not great. It is an older game. I give it a slight thumbs up. The HO scenes are generally good, but there tends to be one item per scene that you need to pixel hunt. The mini-games are easy or a total p.i.t.a., with not much in-between. The story is alright. I found the audio, graphics and animations pleasing. It only took me 3 hours to get through the main game and another hour to finish the bonus. There is no interactive map, so all the backtracking gets a bit tedious. As well, should you leave the game for a few days, as I did, it is not simple to pick up where you left off. I recommend getting it on sale, as I did. It is the first game of a series. The others hopefully improve on this foundation.
