Incredibly terrible and wonky game. I get this is more in the market for BRAND NEW VR players but that might as well be a "flight on rails system". You can completely hover in place in the chopper with nose pointed to the grown 90 degrees and not lose altitude and just unload directly over the target. Their very first WWI plane game was decent. Then everything crawled from the dumps. Which is a shame considering there aren't many VR games. But I would a million times over would rather go play and recommend VTOL VR. At this rate I won't even be testing anymore of their games after two terrible ones in a row. Should've kept developing the first one you had.
Fun sim-cade. This is exactly what I wanted: it's a first-person view inside the cockpit, and the flight model is based on reality, but I don't have to spend an hour getting off the ground. This is true for the game itself as well as the simulated aircraft: within about 30 seconds of starting the game, I was flying around blowing stuff up. Mapping controls takes about 1 minute, since there are only about 6 buttons to map. It's like the old-school basic "flight sims" of my childhood, but with updated graphics and in VR. The helicopters feel a little wonky but who cares? I can just press a button and switch to the jet *in the middle of the mission.* I got the whole pack of 3 games: WWI, WWII, and Air Corps. They are all basically the same game with different flight speeds, which is okay with me. There are not many flight games in the space between hardcore sims and third-person arcade games, but this is one of them; it's as close as I've gotten to Sky Rogue in VR. I hope they add a rougelike mode :) Edit: The missions in this game are a little more of a puzzle than the previous games - you have to figure out how to take out the air defense missiles first, use the right weapons for the job, etc. Rudders felt pretty weird on the "twist stick" axis -- I bound them separately so I didn't use them by accident. Helicopters feel better now. This is an easy game; it's supposed to be easy. If you want a challenge get Falcon BMS.
FINAAAAALLYYYY A VR COOL COMBAT FLIGHT GAME !!! I've been trying vr flight sims for ages..(I really mean years)the Sturmovik I could not even take off at all, because all these pre loaded or default settings..the mixture throttle never worked as in reality, always moving by itself God knows why..no airplane in the planet works this way. War thunder you cannot fly any airplane without stalling 85 to 90 percent of your flight. Those"so called" realism is faaar but really far from being fun when we are talking about a video game. War thunder is not made for players, but yes for game developers, people who spend at least 5 hours a day trying to progress, which might happen in a couple of years playing the game. VTOL is the one which approaches the most to WARPLANES AIR CORP, with a perfect cockpit management, but in terms of targets and destroying things is very difficult and out of reach for an average fun player. WARPLANES brought us FUN FUN and A LOT OF FUN !!!! Specially for players who do not make their living in the game industry, but rather are just fun players who are not 24/7 in front of a pc. I STRONGLY RECOMEND this game for the ones who wanto have fun. The helicopter commands are just amazing !!!! CONGRATULATIONS and please keep the updates.
Helicopter flight-model is functional but rudimentary, with some weird quirks like losing almost all attitude control when you have collective at minimum, making certain maneuvers practically impossible. Your tailrotor goes from functioning normally to doing next to nothing once you cross an arbitrary threshold of speed, it's incredibly jarring when you're accelerating or decelerating while yawing. Generally, it lacks a sense of weight or aerodynamics - eg you don't pick up speed very much from gravity, which feels almost non-existent. There's not much of a sense that your wings or rotors are generating lift to counteract it either. In helicopters, you can point your nose straight down at the ground and throttle up, and you'll travel straight forwards without losing altitude - and it just happens to be the fastest way to fly, so you end up looking straight up a lot. The issues with the flight-model are even more pronounced with the AH-1 and Mi-28. The controls just start to lock up if you go below ~50% collective. It seems worse at high speeds - but even <70km/h, you can't pitch forwards when at low collective, and roll and yaw impulses are tiny. Presumably gonna be a similar story for the other 2 helicopters. You can still have overall arcadey and accessible flight mechanics whilst still lending it a sense of realism and authenticity. Desperately needs a recenter button. (Ed: Per developer response below, it already existed - press & hold left analog - just wasn't communicated in-game IIRC) In the starter helicopter (an MD500) the controls feel too low, I have to hunch down when seated to be able to reach them and keep my hands where they need to be. The missions spam a fair few MD500s at you, and they will rip your own helicopter to shreds in short order. They're easier to deal with once you get upgrades or into one of the other helicopters. All that said, if you enjoy battlefield (up to ~BF4)-style helicopter (or plane) semi-arcade flight mechanics enough to play a single-player focused game about it, you'll probably still enjoy it. I don't think I'll refund this, just hope it gets worked on some more.
I loved the first 2 flight sims from this developer but this one is low rent. Helicopter controls are terrible. Ordered a refund. Will spend the refund on more VTOL aircraft. VTOL is the only flight sim you need.
There is now HOTAS support Thanks for the swiftness
I will start by saying I like this game a lot, I have a lot of simulators in my library and they all fill a certain itch. I would say this is more on the arcade end of the spectrum, but I don't mean that as a bad thing. We have plenty of hard core flight/combat simulators, and they come with long session setup/startup/egress factors. This one is more like, jump in, take off and start shooting, and we need that in the combat sim world. Also the price is VERY reasonable for a VR title. I would recommend trying the demo, and decide from there. Also, the Devs seem to be very responsive to the community which is always a great thing.
I love the fantasy of this game. It's fun to light up an area with a series of rockets, but to be honest with you I can't recommend it. your AI teammates are basically extra ammo as they don't move or fight or die or do anything on their own. On a few occasions I saw enemy helicopters just hover in place not moving or attacking at all. They started moving after I attacked them but that's not great AI. And compared to the last 2 games it's very easy. rockets are guided, there's no difficulty options I can see and the enemies just don't seem to be a threat, I've only ever been shot down by automated SAM turrets or crashed. And on top of that, all the trains, refineries, anti-air turrets, trucks, and tanks are all recycled from the WW1 game they made and the WW2 game they made. The only reason I'm not refunding the game is because the guided missiles they added are really fun, but that's the only difference between this and the World war 2 dog fighting game they made.
I genuinely like the entire Warplanes seriens, I just wish that the progression system that you find in singleplayer could be played in co-op with friend compared to just pre-made/custom missions
