!! REFUNDED !! !! Caution !! for many people and for a long time it seems, there has been a problem with the select controllers screen. If you encounter this, you just can't play the game. I already own the game on quest, I just wanted to play via steam so I can use an overlay while playing. ....But no one ever fixed this old and well known problem. VTOL VR for the Win.
do NOT buy this if you are interested in HOTAS. i appreciate the virtual controls, but the dev advertises HOTAS support and it most definitely does not work. you can go find countless threads where once it's mentioned, the dev goes completely quiet. i have an active thread, and there's another right below mine that are being ignored. he has responded to other posts in the meantime. apparently the support email ignores these requests too. shame on you, Bit Planet Games, LLC
Game is Unplayable if you use steam VR devs refuse to fix it don't bother
Like many others who purchased this game I have requested a refund. The developers are attempting to sell a product they know is completely broken for a significant amount of users. By refusing to fix the problems, or even bother to add a warning about what does not work, Bit Planet Games have shown they are more than willing to lie and act unethically if it makes them more money
Unfortunatelly the game is broken for a long time. Devs do not fix the issue. Its not possible to select the controllers for the game to startup when using Quest 2 or Quest 3 headsets. Virtual Desktop and Steam Link does not work.
In its current state, I can not get past the initial screen to play the game since the controller input screen moves with my head and I am unable to get into the game any longer. this is with Index controllers and the Bigscreen Beyond.
This is one of the only PCVR titles that comes with native Yaw pro motion simulator support! You just power on your Yaw and simply run the game! It also has very basic hand tracking support in which you can only use the grab button by making a fist, however you will find that you can actually entirely start up any aircraft AND steer decently without any controllers at all technically! I will admit that I could never see myself playing this game without an advanced VR motion simulator, however because my family does possess that, Ultrawings 2 had very quickly become one of my favorite and most therapeutic titles I play today. Yaw Pro Motion Simulator Settings: Power - 70 to 80 Pitch Forward - 29 Pitch Backward - 33 Roll - 31 Yaw - Limit Yaw to no more than 30°
Steam asks, "Do you recommend this game?" I don't, not on PCVR. As a standalone game, sure. Fill your boots, it's solid enough for mobile. My first impressions on Steam have not been sufficient to keep me playing, so it doesn't get my recommendation. It's neither what I like about arcade games, nor what I like about flight sims. The devs say Ultrawings 2 is one of the most indepth flying games on Quest, which not having a Quest I'll accept as true. But I'm playing on PCVR..... there are other PC VR flight experiences I'd pick before Ultrawings. First impressions include missions flying an aircraft in the cartoon world with one hand, whilst popping brightly coloured baloons with a dart gun from the other hand. I'm not taking this seriously, but nor enjoying a new, fun arcade experience in VR. And I'm not enjoying time spent in the overly simplistic art style created for the world. I'm flying high... the horizon doesn't need to exclusively water on every side. I live on an island IRL, but I still can't see from coast to coast. Ultrawings 2 looks, feels and plays like a simplistic flight game from times long ago wrapped for modern audiences. There's a simple pre-flight check to go through, and then away. It is not difficult. That's fine, it's arcadey. That's fine too, but as an arcade game, it doesn't bring anything new and exciting to the table. In retrospect, I shouldn't have picked up this title.
96 minutes of so called play time. Just in case this issue applies to anyone else, you are definitely not alone. Every minute credited as playtime has been spent trying to get a controller, any controller to be recognized. Yep that also includes a Warthog. Crap! I'd gladly settle for use of an xbox controller if it would work for me. Grant it, I'm not the best with troubleshooting but i do have quite a few games and this one holds the title of being the most irritating waste in my library. Meanwhile, if you know how to resolve this type of issue, well, great...if not, you're just gonna be disappointed. So for me i say don't bother with it. I just wanna be able to turn it on and it work.
ATTENTION QUEST 3 USERS!!! After a TON of research I have found that to play this on Quest 3 via Virtual Desktop, Secure Boot needs to be disabled in your motherboard's bios. It's a whole thing to get it done - if you are on Windows 11 you will need to turn off Bitlocker / decrypt your windows install first - else you risk bricking your PC. Once Bitlocker is disabled and Windows is decrypted, you can disable secure boot in bios. Once THAT is all done the game will boot from the Virtual Desktop game menu. This is on the dev to fix as the game was designed using outdated practices that clash with Microsoft's vision of secure boot. It's very interesting that the first game doesn't have this issue... I love the game itself, and am just disappointed in the dev's lack of communication on the issue / working on a fix. Most users nowadays are using the Quest headset, and the Steam version is LEAGUES better compared to standalone. Until the game is fixed to work with Virtual Desktop / Secure Boot enabled, I will leave the review as a negative one.
