Game about game making needs to learn how to put together a playable game. If this isn't irony I don't know what is. Avoid this product like the plague! Nobody will read my review so I Will Eat 1 Tablespoon of ketchup For Every Like this gets.
Kinda ironic to make a game about game development and make it an unplayable disaster.
This game goes in the "WTF did I just play" category, and not in a good way either. Sure, Game Tycoon 1.5 is over 10+ years old. But man, it is so broken beyond repair that I'm surprised the devs published it as complete AND even slapped a price tag on top of it. So many unresponsive buttons from the moment you enter the menu; Campaign button crashes the game, and there other 2 difficulties (easy + hard) cannot be selected when you reach the creation. Now in the game, all voice lines you cannot speed through or skip the boring dialogues. The VAs have the most slowest speech and most mono-tone sounding voice, it feels like they just used a bot talking with speed x0.5 or x0.75 at the fastest. There's a tutorial, but I could barely handle that with all the flaws above. It's even worse when some of the NPCs don't have a dialogue bubble pop-up while instructing you how to play, so good luck remembering all of that if audio-learning is your weakest asset. The game is not beginner friendly, and fails to properly teach players how to even manage their first program. The graphics are horrid. Everything looks so stretched with some blurring on my screen, Clearly the devs did not consider accommodating screens of different dimensions and resolutions. VAs I've already covered above. Avoid this game at all costs. Game Tycoon 1.5 is NOT the strategy management game that aspiring programmers are looking for.
------------------------ To be honest, this game is VERY weak, it even has gameplay logic, but it's all slow and simple, I was even trying to play, but I pressed "esc" once to pause the game (usual) and it just came back for the initial screen, I lost half an hour of "progress" and I'm not going to torture myself with more time in this game, repeating everything I did, so I give up and leave my non-recommendation.
NOTE: This game has potential to be quite "fun", but it has quite some major flaws like crashing when switching tabs, awkward voice acting, music not working on the main menu, ... Game Tycoon 1.5 is a very poorly made business/tycoon/spreadsheet simulator where, just like the Game Dev Tycoon game the developer set out to rip off, you run a game dev studio, put together some generic stuff about a "game" you are going to make, then click through the various dialogues and panels until it gets done and the numbers on the panel change a bit. It's not as exciting as hospital tycoon games or city builders, even if it was developed well, it wouldn't be that interesting. But the technical implementation here is garbage, even for a game from 2016. Apart from just looking bad and being clunky, it's riddled with bugs and inconveniences. This really does look and feel like a bargain bin game from the 1990s. From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard. There's no options to change the resolution for the game or customise the graphics settings. There's no way for gamers to ensure this is running at the native resolution of their displays... there's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision. There's no way for gamers to try improve the low quality graphics. The game interface is mostly just text boxes/dialogs and where there are graphical elements, they look like rejects from 1998. While that might be fine for the 1990s, gaming has evolved a lot since then... it's 2023, and that kind of thing just won't fly anymore, it's just not visually up to scratch. The game only displays in 4:3 stretched aspect ratio. It's possible they developed this using an old CRT they found in a dumpster, or this game has been specifically designed for people gaming on PC's from 1995... either way, this isn't really acceptable in the modern era of PC gaming. Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the video game construction kit/toolset, the 3D GameStudio from Conitec Datasystems. In their own words, this system is so dumbed down you can "click together 3D games from pre-assembled game templates" in a matter of hours. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur/unskilled developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game. Game Tycoon 1.5 is relatively cheap at $1 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.
The only thing I found entertaining about this game is the fact that they didn't apply their own rules to have a successful game to make this one. This is a bad game, there's not 1 redeemable thing about it, even in 2014 this would be considered a bad game. If you got it as a gag gift, be sure you can beat within 10 hours, maybe less if you understand how to play right away. Luckily, there's a bug that allows you to get a lot of money quickly so it won't take 200 hours to clear each mission as I guess the dev aimed for.
Tried a while back, was pretty bad.
An absolute disaster of a game. Locked at 1024x768 resolution with no options menu. Bad voice acting with the lines sometimes overlapping each other. Worst of all was it consistently freezing my computer only a few minutes into the actual gameplay. Go pay a few dollars more and get a functional, enjoyable experience with Game Dev Tycoon.
