War on the sea was a pleasant surprise as I generally like the pacific theater history and I've seen all the movies. It seems to be well thought out - initially - but in practice it has gotten a few things very wrong, especially regarding AI and doctrines. To mention some of the great stuff, the graphics are lovely, the damage models are quite good. One can really feel the struggle of the sailors to put out fires on ships, the fires can spread and cause magazine explosions, this stuff is awesome. It can make me watch the ship burning for 5 minutes and actually enjoy it (the first couple of times). The campaign gameplay is also quite engaging although this is where things start to feel a little weird, along a couple of in-mission tweaks that could help the grind of having to sink hundreds of enemy ships. I don't enjoy the submarine spam, as well as how the enemies are so aggressive. Therefore this is the first game I actually tried to mod myself and to bring it to some kind of state that campaign AI won't totally suck. My results were actually quite good in that regard, so I think I might continue to try and improve it myself.

Wery good game.
Super cool premise, I agree with others saying its a bit clunky(especially the UI). I recommend it because its a fascinating game that forces you to make critical decisions hours before they are fully realized, which may end up sinking your ships if it was the wrong decision! The campaign is the meat and bones of the game and you can get many hours from one campaign. Unfortunately there are only 2 campaigns but many mods remedy this by adding their own campaigns and spin on things. Overall solid 8/10, it definitely takes a second to get used to!
Awesome strategic gameplay.
I absolutely love this game everything about it for me is amazing. It hasn't got a workshop but all you need to do is go into discussions and download a mod and move a couple of files around its not hard
好在可以自己该参数定制游戏
战争迷和历史迷应该比较喜欢(日军战役很难!!!)
I have only played as the US. Likes Surface combat is exceptionally exciting and requires a lot of forethought on both the strategic and tactical level. (The wider campaign and individual battles) Slapping a destroyer with the 14x5in gun broadside of an Atlanta is incredibly satisfying. Magazine explosions. There is a broad selection of ships to choose from and a lot of information on each ship though it is difficult to make sense of a lot of it. Dislikes Torpedo depth cannot be changed to fit your target this coupled with the reactivity update makes destroyers nearly immune to ship launched torpedoes. The AI does not use it's aircraft or carriers effectively. If you spot a carrier group with any plane the carrier(s) will send every fighter they have after the scout and leave no aircraft to defend the carriers from yours. Engaging is surface combat is suboptimal. It is way more optimal to instead fight exclusively with subs and aircraft. The dual purpose 5 inch guns will get stuck shooting at planes that already dropped their payloads and will do so until these planes are out of range. It will then take 30 seconds for the ships to acquire new targets. The selection of aircraft available is lacking. I recommend getting the Tokyo Express mod to add more aircraft. The air dropped torpedoes don't have a minimum arming range and the enemy has a tendency to drop them straight onto the decks of your ships. This is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ as it makes airdropped torpedoes basically unavoidable. Torpedoes from surface ships are hard to use especially since the AI reactivity update. Submarine torpedo attacks against surface ships have become harder to pull off. I attempted to torpedo an aircraft carrier from 1200 meters and the carrier managed to put on 15 knots in fewer seconds and dodged every single torpedo. I get the Shokaku was a fast ship but this was absurd. Ships always move at max speed in the map regardless of damage. This makes hunting down crippled ships incredibly annoying. But does make evacuating your crippled ships much easier. I haven't been able to get strategic bombing to yield results. The late game USN tends to drag on since you're main constraint will be waiting to get resources to build the airfield on Guadalcanal. The hoards of Japanese destroyers ferrying troops and supplies around are particularly annoying. The game will supercharge resource gain eventually but the triggers are unclear. The IJN mostly ignores Port Moresby and Milne Bay. They could have caused serious problems if they just committed a few resources west. Enemy fleets in the strategic map will only take a few scripted paths to the various objectives Other Notes and Gameplay Tips When engaging surface ships with submarines it is best do so when the sea state is at least 6 or higher. Such attacks are best conducted at night or when visibility is otherwise low. It is incredibly unlikely for the game to last into 1943 do not plan on having access to such ships. Aircraft are more attritionable than ships. Turn off collision for the AI. Only use B-17s for scouting. Do not send wildcats to dogfight zeroes outside the AA bubble of your ships. Sometimes you have to sacrifice the wildcats to give the bombers a clear shot at the target. Turn off dud torpedoes. Since the reactivity update made torp attacks harder getting a bunch of lucky hits only for them all to be duds is incredibly frustrating.
being attacked by aircraft every 5 seconds makes the game litaraly unplayable
