_____________8__88_____8 ____________88_8__8_____8 ___________888_____88___88888 __________8888______88_8____88 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______88______8_8 _________8888_______8_______8 _________8888_____8_______8 __________88888____8______8 ___________8888888______8 __888_________88888_8 8888888________88_____ _8888888_______8_____ __888888_______88_____ ___88_____8_____8_____ ____8______8____8_____8_88 _______8888_8__88_8_88888 _____888888_8_88__8888888 ____8888888__88______88888 ____88888_____8_________888 ____88_________8__________8 _____8_________8_____ _______________8_____ ____________8_8_____ _____________88_8_____ ______________88_____ ______________8_____
It's cute. It has great dialogue and a distinctive art style, but that's really it. Psychonauts is a great-looking, stylish game. The telekinesis movement is awesome, and I'd die for Mommy Mila. It took me like 18-20 hours to 100% the game with some tactical reloads. What it makes up for in style, it lacks in game design. Almost everything from a gameplay perspective falls flat. The level design is insanely bad, the difficulty feels frustrating for the wrong reasons due to how a lot of the enemies are just more annoying than challenging. It feels like it was designed by people who didn't fully understand how to make a satisfying third-person platformer. Collectibles are also really frustrating to obtain because of the rough level design, and even navigating the camp is a chore due to its awkward layout. It's probably one of the most overrated games I've played. Third-person platformers from the same era were significantly better, including games released four or five years earlier like the original Ratchet & Clank. Psychonauts has plenty of style and personality, but I don't think its gameplay is anything special, but definitely worth at least one playthrough if you are intrigued and its cheap enough to be worth the price of entry.
I would not have a degree were it not for this game, I will not elaborate on why
The game by itself is very good. The lore, the free roam mechanic, the story, the secrets... But its an old game and it shows. The boss battles are shabby almost as if they werent fully completed. The mechanics and abilities are very thought out and are very well implemented in combat. The platforming is very well planned but some obstacles require some deep thinking since the game doesnt give you some specific guideline. You can always use bacon for agent Crullers help but sometimes you have to figure it out on your own. I recommend saving before going onto the elevator to the top of the asylum since the game locks you out from free roam after that point, I didnt do this and now I cant get the other achievements without starting a new game. But after 20hrs of gameplay I want to play it all over again. The game leaves you longing for more so I will definitely play tge sequel. Very much recommend!!
Ra-Ra-Razputin, ate up 40 benadryls These kids' brains were really all gone Ra-Ra-Razputin, I couldn't come up with any more lyrics, please just play the game it's really good.
🤯
the games unfortunately unplayable. the camera never seems to stop spinning no matter what I do and its near impossible to play on steam deck, especially after 25+ mins of trying to configure the best controls for the game. it genuinely sucks to have to rate the game so low when ive been so excited to play but there isnt anything I can do about it.
What a delightful "action" (you fight things) "platformer" (you jump around a lot) "adventure" (you talk to NPCs, search for and use various objects) wrapped around the story inside other people's heads. The difficulty ramps up quite a lot towards the end, which can be a bit frustrating - but nothing a few profane words aimed at monitor and couple of retries can't solve. Overall, what a great experience it was!
I don't know if there is a single thing I do not love about this game. The concept, setting, visual style, writing, voice acting, music . . . it's incredible across the board. They were really firing on all synapses when they made this baby.
Fun quirky platformer, pretty good but kinda jank at time but never annoying or bad
