Extremely high gameplay, believable simulation, with the MOD Campaigns the game becomes infinite... Although in my case (having an iMac) some of the Mods' graphic packages have graphical glitches that haven't been fixed yet. But I'll play it anyway.
Here’s a detailed review of *War On The Sea*, --- ### Premise and Setting *War On The Sea* is set during World War II, specifically in the Pacific Theater, with a focus on the Solomon Islands campaign. Players take command of naval fleets, submarines, and aircraft, choosing to fight as either the Allied forces or the Imperial Japanese Navy. The game blends real-time strategy with simulation elements, aiming to deliver an authentic naval warfare experience rooted in historical accuracy. --- ### Gameplay The core of *War On The Sea* revolves around strategic naval combat. The game offers a campaign mode where you manage resources, deploy fleets, and engage in battles to control key areas, alongside single missions and a skirmish mode for quicker play sessions. Each ship and aircraft comes with unique stats—speed, armor, armament—requiring thoughtful tactical planning. The game excels in its attention to detail, simulating realistic mechanics like torpedo runs, depth charges, and anti-aircraft defenses. **Strengths:** - Highly detailed ship and aircraft models. - Realistic naval warfare mechanics that reward strategic thinking. - Historical authenticity that appeals to enthusiasts. **Weaknesses:** - A steep learning curve that can overwhelm newcomers. - No comprehensive tutorial, leaving players to figure things out on their own. - Occasional AI issues, such as erratic or unresponsive behavior. While the depth is impressive, the lack of guidance might frustrate casual players, making it more suited for those willing to invest time in mastering its systems. --- ### Graphics and Sound Visually, *War On The Sea* is functional but not groundbreaking. The ship and aircraft designs are detailed and well-crafted, but the environments—such as the sea and islands—feel bland and repetitive. The game uses a top-down strategic map and a third-person battle view, which suits the gameplay but doesn’t dazzle the eyes. The sound design follows a similar path. Weapon effects, ship engines, and aircraft noises are realistic and fitting, but the background music is generic and loops too often. There’s no voice acting, which could have added immersion, though it’s not a dealbreaker for a strategy-focused title. **Summary:** - **Graphics:** Decent but uninspired—good models, lackluster environments. - **Sound:** Practical and authentic, yet forgettable. --- ### Story *War On The Sea* doesn’t prioritize narrative. The campaign provides historical context for its battles, but there’s no overarching story or character development. This isn’t a flaw for a game focused on strategy and simulation—its appeal lies in the gameplay, not a cinematic tale. Players seeking a story-driven experience might find this aspect underwhelming, but it aligns with the game’s goals. --- ### Overall Experience *War On The Sea* is a niche title that shines for fans of naval warfare and strategy simulations. Its depth, historical fidelity, and modding community are standout features, offering replayability for dedicated players. However, its steep learning curve, lack of polish, and dated presentation may alienate those looking for a more accessible or visually stunning game. --- ### Verdict - **Pros:** - Detailed and realistic ship/aircraft models. - Engaging naval warfare mechanics. - Strong historical accuracy. - **Cons:** - Steep learning curve with no solid tutorial. - AI inconsistencies. - Bland graphics and repetitive sound. - **Score:** 6.5/10 **Recommendation:** If you’re a naval warfare enthusiast who enjoys a challenge and doesn’t mind digging into a complex system, *War On The Sea* is worth a look. For casual gamers or those expecting a polished, beginner-friendly experience, it might be better to steer clear. ---

This is the best Naval combat sim I've played in a log time, setting up formations and battle lines with all sorts of diffrnt ships is great, I also recommend the tokyo mod that adds soo much stuff.
I've been waiting for this game to go on sale for a while now, and it finally did. I wish I knew how much fun it would be, or I would've purchased it earlier. I like games similar to this: Ultimate Admiral Dreadnoughts, and Sea Power, but this one, I think, is a good in between, where you get the accuracy and stunning visuals similar to Sea Power, but a more interesting warship era (at least for a WW2 nut like me), and a fully functional campaign. The difference from a missile era to torpedoes and explosives makes the combat a lot riskier and less decisive, making every encounter unique. And when you finally do manage to sink that enemy prize ship, it feels so rewarding! I only wish the base game campaign map were larger, and the goals were more spread out over time. I feel like I blew through the US side of the campaign before even getting to utilize the 1943 vessels. Luckily, this game is supposed to have a fairly strong modding scene, with larger campaigns that I'm excited to try out next. Overall, I would highly recommend this if you enjoy naval fleet management games. Especially if you are at all interested in the WW2 theater. The powerful mix between aircraft, surface ship, and submarine warfare is hard to beat or find elsewhere.
Im only 3 hours in (the tutorial) but am surely impressed. Far more realistic than Victory at Sea, or Atlantic Fleet. I have spent so much time just playing with the different options learning how to control my planes, and subs and ships. So much to learn. So much to play with. I have been looking for a grand strategy ship game that had some great visuals and control in tactical battles, and I am really happy so far. I will update if I find issues further in. For sure worth the $12 I paid on sale.
lo recomiendo y ademas con mods es mucho mejor por ejemplo de la campaña del atlantico donde esta el bismarck o el hood
Still clunky and problematic after all these years. Came back to see if it improved, saving a game doesn't even work.... nope.
You need mods for a full experience... get on sale. Too expensive.
A very good game
8/10 would create the Greater Asian co-prosperity Sphere again
