🎮 Voidlifted 🎮
Also eigentlich keinerlei Beanstandungen. This is more of a game for people who want to really have a casual and relaxing experience. It's definitely not one for people who are out there looking for a challenge. Please keep in mind that it's in Early Access and that everything could easily change during the remainder of development.
Gameplay
It starts with a good built-in tutorial to get you started. You can find different features on the map, including functional locations: 1. Shop: buy and sell things 2. Infirmary: heal units 3. Village: recruit new soldiers 4. Etc. Everything is located on a hex grid, and some of these are controlled by the enemy. You will need to defeat them in order to get ownership of the hex. Others are empty and you can build on these. The game has many missions for you to do, all of them are fighting the enemies. If you succeed, you will earn gold, new land, items, etc. Each time you win a mission on an island, your reputation on that island will increase as well. Skipping too many turns will cause the reputation to decrease. The battles themselves are turn-based. The fights are not very complicated, you move first, then you attack. There are a few different kinds of units, and hopefully more will be added later. You can save at any time.
Graphics
The graphics are good to look at, and the text is easy to read.
Music & Sounds
Fairly basic, but that's fine.
Controls
The game can be fully played with a mouse.
Pricing
It has a good price at €5.69 EU/$6.99 US currently, and according to the store page, the price will stay steady after Early Access.
First Look Video Without Commentary
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2t_P34zZVBY
Verdict
Voidlifted is a more casual game and does not offer much of a challenge. For people who like strategy games but don't want much of a challenge, this is a pretty good casual game for you. For those who want a challenge, this is probably a bit too easy for you. Overall a fun game, just make sure that you are the right audience for this title.
I received the product for free. I did not receive any compensation to write this review. Voidlifted ist ein rundenbasiertes S-RPG (Strategie RPG)
Gameplay

Developed by a single developer, Voidlifted is a pretty amazing yet fairly simple, turn-based RPG that's set in a world that had been shattered into different fragments. Kingdoms, both big and small, were eventually established on each fragment with you controlling the smallest fragment of all. However, things is about to change... because you've somehow found a way to bring pieces of the world to your little fragment - it's like reeling in a catch - and with time, you may even end up reassembling the world, piece by piece!
Watch me play!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=902bCkVT4rY The gameplay here is pretty incredible too. To make it a lot easier to read, I'll just break it down into several parts: >>>>Note that the game's still in early access when I played it. As the game develops, there might be some changes that'll make some parts of my review inaccurate, so please keep that in mind!
1. Your army of heroes
The game actually lets you recruit as many units as you can afford to via various buildings at your Home grid. There are three classes of units, namely Soldiers (melee), Archers (ranged), and Mages (ranged+AoE/splash damage). Although you can probably guess the general range of the stats of these classes, like Soldiers usually have a lot more health than Archers or Mages, what really makes this part of the game so interesting is that the stats of the units you get to recruit are randomly generated, and depending on the stats, the cost of recruitment will vary. By using your units in battle, they will also level up and earn skill points which you can then invest into improving their stats. So, here's the catch - if you are running low on cash but need a new unit for your team, then know that getting a unit with "bad" stats isn't exactly the end of the world since the game doesn't let you "fire" or "release them from duty" for some reason. You can still build the guy up by bringing him along in easier battles. Though, you should know that you'll need to have specific buildings constructed before you can do this... so start saving coins! Oh, and although you can heal injured units, you can't revive fallen units in this game. The units you recruit are pretty expandable here but of course, you might still want to be careful with your higher-level units because leveling them up can be quite a grind!
2. Missions and Reputation
Voidlifted is a quest/mission-heavy game so you're expected to travel to other fragments with your team of heroes and complete quests (to slay all enemies) to obtain loot, which can come in the form of coins, consumables, a new skill for your heroes, or a new grid of land to build on. Missions are very transparent here and I absolutely love it. You can know everything you need to prepare for the encounter, from the strength, classes and number of the enemies to whether to not an encounter includes a boss. Each mission also restricts how many units you can bring along - up to 4 at the beginning, in addition to your own character, the King, but you can increase this value by 1 by building a Smithy... if I remembered correctly. Another factor you'll have to consider is the reputation you have with each of the lands. Reputation is basically a balancing act here because by doing a favor (i.e. completing a mission) for a realm and you'll "offend" all the others. I'm not too sure about this but I've noticed that you get markedly worse missions, such as asking you to slay a ton of enemies for meagre rewards, if your reputation with said realm is not really that good. Also, due to the mechanics, it's impossible to be "Mr Nice Guy" and be on good terms with every realm, so it's best to just pick the around two (or maybe three) realms with the best missions and stick with them.
3. Easy Combat
This game is designed to make combat as easy and as straightforward as possible so that newbies to the genre can pretty much jump right in (after going through the very concise tutorial that is). This means that you won't get extra damage for flanking an enemy or make use of terrain bonuses to deal extra damage. There's no hit rating so you're guaranteed a successful attack every time... and so does your opponent! The battlefield here is also pretty bare - there are no objects on it except the units on both sides, so you can't use an object or a unit to block the line of sight of your enemies too. Plus, although the AI here isn't exactly 100% dumb, they are on Easy mode for sure! That being said, Voidlifted still managed to offer some measure of depth for its combat, whether it is via its battlefield design (make use of those choke points!) or the lineup of enemies you have to defeat. Of course, the dev does need to do quite a bit of tweaking here - note the Cons below.
4. Home base
Your home base is set on a hex-based grid. There are hexes that you can attack and capture to unlock new buildings or empty land that you can then build on. Ocassionally, one of your tiles will be attacked and you'll need to re-capture it before you lose it forever. So, what's the TL;DR?
Pros
+ An easy turn-based game to get into, even for a beginner + A pretty cool storyline that's not too generic + Units with customizable stats (via the skills/upgrade system) + Sufficient variety of units and enemies. Three isn't a lot but it's good enough if you want to keep things simple + Nice graphics with cute and well-varied characters
Cons/Feedback
- Can you put in a text that mention about losing all your action points and not being able to move AFTER a unit has performed an attack? - Having a comparatively high Defense rating doesn't seem to do much here - I haven't seen a blocked or dodged attack yet. - @12:00 of my gameplay - I really didn't like this map design. It can be a bit hard to discern between the tiles you can move on and the tiles that you can't. - Currently, progression seems to rest solely on the development of your Home realm. Once you've built all the buildings available, it doesn't seem evident what else you could do. - Lots of typos and grammatical errors - @Dev If you could squeeze a bit of cash out of your budget or if you've got a friend who can help you out, I think you really need an editor to comb through the texts in the game. It may not seem important but trust me when I say having good, proper writing, in addition to the amazing gameplay, does help to inspire more confidence in your game. If I've got the time, I'd be happy to lend you a hand - FOC. - Costly for a single playthrough (which is what I can see in the game at the moment). The game needs to offer more in terms of replayability to justify the $8 price. - I can't tell if the game has an ending (or multiple endings) or not.
Suggestions
- Harder difficulties with special challenges or bonuses to increase replayability? - Maybe add something special if the player manage to get 100 Reputation for any of the realms? Like a Perk or a special unit? - Some voice acting for the story intro would be nice :) - Maybe let us fire/release from service any of the units we no longer want for a bit of cash? - Vary the mission objectives a bit?
Overall
Voidlifted is definitely the sort of turn-based RPG that fits the niche where casual gamers who are looking to get into the genre, and midcore gamers who just want to play something casual to relax, reside. The game is really easy to get into, more so if you're already a huge fan of turn-based strategy/RPGs, and the game does offer quite a bit of fun. Personally though, I think Voidlifted might be more suitable on the mobile platform due to its more casual nature, but that might just be me.
