A by the numbers classic JRPG that feels familiar to anyone versed in the genre. It can be a tad generic in its story and rarely tries to surprise you but that doesn't detract from its charm and solid gameplay. The strongest aspect is its beautiful visuals throughout full of vibrancy and colour that instantly connects you to the game world. Combat is similarly well put together with a solid class system that has you adapting your loadout to particular bosses' weaknesses that are fairly telegraphed due to the game's elemental regions. As stated above, the story doesn't do anything revolutionary but it is functional and enjoyable as a familiar jrpg tale that has a good heart, though there are some more interesting directions the story could have taken thematically should a more mature outlook have been desired by the developer but that is clearly not the intended direction and as such should not be discredited for that simplicity in narrative. Overall, I really enjoyed the game and would recommend it to anyone looking for a well presented, classic style action JRPG, that is okay with a basic narrative to connect the various combat and visual setpieces.
Character A:"I was chosen to sacrifice myself." Character B:"That's great to hear, we always wanted something like this for you! :D" Savage. Memes aside, the game is definitely quite rough around the edges, but overall a very enjoyable experience. Most combat encounters are trivial, I got through "Hard" difficulty repeatedly holding down the triangle button, dodging when the ground was red and burning through consumables. Only the postgame fight and a few optional encounters (so-called aeries) really necessitated me to make specific strategies and swap between characters a lot. The level curve was almost perfectly keeping up with me while linearly following the story, but once the game opened up and I started doing all the sidequests that popped up, I got a solid 10 level lead over most encounters. Still got one-shot occasionally. Story was okay, it's pretty classic JRPG and doesn't really try anything new, but it achieves what it's trying to do. Voice acting, I found decent on the main characters, but it gets funky on side NPCs. Meeting Morly for the first time gave me whiplash, but it grew on me. Visually, the environment is absolutely gorgeous, the effects pretty and there's nostalgia galore, but the characters can be a bit off-putting, since they all look like porcelain dolls and the lack of lip syncing and the often very restricted facial impressions are not helping that impression. Some even got a reflective sheen on the skin, which is hilarious. I cracked it up to art style, but couldn't shake off creepy dollhouse vibes at times. Music was okay all-around. No real bangers that make you stop what you do and listen, no real stinkers that make you wanna turn it off either. For the most part, it just sat unobtrusively in the background and did its magic setting the mood. To me, it enhanced immersion quite a bit. QoL leaves a bit to be desired. Like, being able to use the world map when you are flying, for example, or making some traversal points permanent instead of constantly having you hit the switch again every time you backtrack (and you backtrack a lot if you do side quests). By the time you get to fly, fast travel becoming unlocked beyond continent borders would have been nice as well, since it would save you one loading screen. It's the little things, nothing too game breaking (unless you got no SSD, I guess). Personally, I got the game on sale and I'd suggest you do the same, especially if you're only going for a single run. I got 56 hours of decent entertainment for 23 bucks and I think that ratio is pretty good, but you can be done with the main story in like 25 hours if you don't do the side stuff and at that point full price seems really unattractive.
Great graphics, decent character design and a good fighting system, which is pulled down by some of the most mediocre story and writing I've ever seen. The graphics look and run pretty well, even on lower-end hardware, the artstyle accomodates upscaling very well. It also runs great on linux, and in UEVR! (did not try both at the same time of course) The character design is good as well, though, I'd have preferred if the characters looked a bit older. I can't take 12-yo looking characters as seriously when thrown in a story like that; Also, underage-looking Palomena in Bikini Armor is sus AF. The fighting system is good, and every character is useful - though I find Julie
(Healer)
and Polomena
(Magic DPS)
significantly more useful than all of the others. The writers did try to give the characters some depth - unfortunately they failed because every detail learned about a character is immediately forgotten and never brought up again. And the back story of the characters is mostly not all that compelling in the first place. You could probably strike most of the characters from the story and not lose much. The story is incredibly predictable, and the writing of individual scenes ranges from "how did this land in production?" to a very strong middle-of-the-road. It's not horrible, but buy it if you have literally no other JRPG you could play instead.
Funciona perfecto en mi steam Deck oled Visión de mana Un juego bien diseñado Hermoso arte, me recordó muchas cosas asta haora me encanta Todos deberían jugar este juego es tan perfecto Técnicas skins estilo personajes música La palabras quedan cortas Lo recomieno
As an attempt to create a new entry in a classic RPG series after almost 20 years, I think this game succeeds phenomenally well. It absolutely feels like a continuation of that legacy, from its visual design to its general story structure to the combat system. However, feeling like a new SNES jrpg has its drawbacks as well: the characters are pretty simplistic/one-note and some of the systems are kinda unintuitive/clunky. Overall, this is a great choice if you want an old-fashioned fantasy jrpg. Note: We ain't getting any more of these, because the studio was shut down ON release day. RIP
Yes
I played a lot of this but haven't been liking it. it feels almost like a boss battle simulator, running around 5 levels less than everything where it takes 10-20 battles to gain a level, so I just run past the regular enemies instead of wasting my time trying to gain a level. Story is mostly straightforward, with a few nice twists but it isn't much. The combat is fairly straightforward too: attack the nearest enemy repeatedly while your computer controlled allies do their thing and sometimes get hurt and you need to throw items at them to keep them alive. I mostly felt bored playing this, to be honest. You are either running towards the next event or fighting a long boss battle, which some of the battles are still hard on the lowest difficulty setting. And at least one of the bosses had a charge attack where you need to attack an orb to not get hit for massive damage, and I could never seem to do enough damage to stop the attack. Which feels really bad when it kills or almost kills your party. Also, your party is 60% furries. 80% if you count the tree person (plural: treeple). That's too much for any decent game (joking). If you like really simple games this might be OK. I basically ignored most of the class system and probably had a suboptimal party but oh well. In the end you just mash Y repeatedly to hit enemies almost no matter what. Not even interested in finishing it at this point.
