I didn't play for long, but in the hour and a half I did play, I felt like I bought a troll game considering the overwhelming positive rating. I had so many annoyances that added up quick. The ammo to reload was about a foot away from my hip out in the air, so reloading in a pinch was not natural. Enemies of all types enjoyed rushing into my melee distance, but I couldn't see any pistol whips registering as damage(?), which felt like a weird design choice. Enemies in melee range mess with your vr arms, so they start flopping all over, making reloading just painful. Probably personal preference on this one, but I do not like enemies frequently spawning in just across the room from you. If it's a certain enemy type, fine, but it happens about 50% of the time. It would feel better if I can reward myself for seeing them first and being a good shot. The starter pistol and the revolver really* should have swapped fire rates. A slow revolver feels so wrong to me. When I decided to quit I got to a crane lift with a box. It was clear that the expectation was to position the box and hop on top, then across to more moving boxes. However, the jump looked like it was going to get just about maxed. I was pre-annoyed that I was likely to die if I set it up slightly wrong, then fall into the lava over and over. I tried to outsmart the mechanic by pulling the crane as close as possible to hop on top of the crane itself and walk on the rail. The rail doesn't have collision - that's when I decided to be done. I feel like there would just be plenty more of that pain to come if I tried pushing through. If you ignore this and end up liking it anyways, good for you.
TIP: By default your main character cannot run, only walk. If you want to be able to run, activate the developer console by pressing F1 on your computer's keyboard when you see the initial game menu or while you're in-game. Then type into the console "movespeed 2" (without quotes) or alternatively "movespeed 2.5", which will increase your maximum speed. Now you don't have to use teleport (dash) to move fast. With your left thumbstick you can now move as slow or fast as you want - up to your maximum movespeed. As a developer I would have done so by default in order to make the game more realistic. Especially in combat I think you should be able to run or sprint, but even otherwise you don't always want to walk to navigate through the world. The game was a lot of fun but would have been better if some of the bosses hadn't been such extreme bullet sponges compared to other enemies. I played the game using Quest 3 and wireless connection to Virtual Desktop Streamer in Windows 11.
good if you wanna kill some time, great if you wanna live through the communist uprising we'll never get to have
Great story, beautiful worlds. Can't believe that this was an indie title. Must-buy for VR.
