Had a blast playing this in VR. They did a great job. So many fun Halloween aspects, if I had to critique my only complaints are the voice over with the lady is so horrible and a couple others. Maybe replace her talking with spooky sounds or find someone whose voice isn't so annoying. Also I kept dropping my dang guns and other items. Oh and it would be awesome if run fast was some other button, it's the worst to push the stick. Otherwise super fun.
This game is very strange. It feels like a bunch of assets were crammed into a game but not necessarily making the game bad. Feels like maybe it's a very inexperienced and small development team BUT it's pretty great. It's really got the spirit of Halloween and all sorts of cute little details and sounds. Kinda like going to your local haunted house on Halloween and enjoying this atmosphere, except in vr and you can shoot stuff.
by no means perfect but its a one of a kind gem
I really wanted this game to work out. I liked the premise, the atmosphere and artwork was nice and the sound effects played perfectly. Now the bad. 1. There is no way to change your key bindings. Going to the tutorial shows you the hard coded bindings but they are not very user friendly. I could not properly move, crouch or jump without having to physically look at the key and hit the button. 2. There is no menu with a save and/or load. There are checkpoints you have to get past. 3. There is no HUD for your stats. You don't know how close to death you are, how much ammo your weapon has or has left. 4. You don't really know the objectives of the level. The campaign mode and the abandoned house is not something you get past by killing the main foe. You just have to escape. Fine, but tell me that before I waste my ammo on something I cannot defeat, ever. 5. There are very, very few weapons to choose from. No biggie since some games play better and it makes the game more of a challenge. Too bad this game was already challenged. 6. It is hard to interact with objects you pick up or doors you must open. They have hints on what to do or what doors can be accessed but you nearly have to be right on top of it to do so. 7. While the sound effects are cool and add to the atmosphere the voice acting is just bad, really bad. Something you would expect from a game made by people where english is a second language. No biggie there though since the game does not have to have good english. I will give the devs a pass on this. 8. When you die you re-spawn in certain locations. Sometimes that location can be right where you died, resulting in you getting caught in a loop where you die then re-spawn in front of the monster that killed you. Expect to die often. At least your ammo replenishes with each re-spawn. Wish I knew how many shells I had for the shotgun. 9. There is no walk or run toggle which would have been nice. This was a game that wanted to be 100% VR, not a PC, and it shows. I am so disappointed cause I saw it and wanted to enjoy it. I know the devs spent most of their time on the atmosphere rather than game play. I should have noticed from the few reviews it had that it was not anyone's choice to pick up. If you want to wait until its either free or charged at less than a dollar then you might get some kick out of it but I do not think it is worth the current price when I wrote this, $7.99. I do not recall the price when I bought it. I did not play it immediately either which is what I should have done so that I could have gotten a refund. To the devs. Thank you for trying. I liked the concept and applaud your efforts but there were just too many aspects lacking that I cannot recommend it. If I thought recommending it would result in your getting more money to spend on improving the game then I would have done so but I doubt that is the case now seeing how old the game is.
I did not expect to like Sinister Halloween as much as I did! For all intents and purposes it feels like putting all of these different horror assets into a single game shouldn't work, but it does because of the Halloween theme, which makes the whole game look like a huge attraction dedicated to All Hallows Eve. The 80s and 90s vibe also did wonders for the game, giving it a nostalgic edge. The main story was silly fun. The DLCs were okay, but not as good as the base campaign (though I didn't get to play the Asylum, which is the latest one, so I can't speak about its quality). Overall, an incredibly solid experience that pays homage to one of my favorite holidays in a very nostalgic way. Here's my playthrough, for anyone interested: https://youtu.be/2PUETsmA5Qk
Game runs like ♥♥♥♥. I have a great system which can play any game at 1440p 60fps+ but this game is poorly optimised, cannot exceed 60fps and experiences massive dips. The game doesn't feel smooth in an capacity. Dreadful. Playing in PC mode not VR.
This game wasn't neither scary nor funny. The characters' dialogs are incredibly superficial and with bad voice acting. The way that enemies like the werewolves attack you is frustrating and mediocre; not to mention that some aspects are just kinda broken or glitchy. I had to replay the "Haunted Forest" level at first and what really annoyed me was that I basically had completed the level. But I got killed by the giant tree right when I was about to escape. But no problem, I should be able to restart that part and escape...right? WRONG! When I respawned, the giant fu*king tree was right there at the escape point, and I tried to do everything I could but I just got killed over and over again by the damn tree, even though the tree wasn't even moving, it was just stuck there! And note that the second time that I played the level, I was very close to face the same issue because is really easy to get killed at that part with all the crazy werewolves and sh*t. Oh, and there's another issue that really bothered me and is the fact than where you are about to escape certain level by pressing "E" you don't simply escape rapidly; Instead, the screen slowly fades into black. But you can keep getting hit even when you have already "escaped." In short: I really wanted to like this game and I was sort of enjoying it at the beginning where you are exploring a town and all that, but things get bad quickly from there and the game starts to show it's flaws very fast.
very nice vr game. doesn't work always how it's supposed to be but I love the art styl and envierment,
Strange game. Very quirky and sometimes a little janky, but super fun! Lots to do and plenty of top notch atmosphere. Give it a shot please! ONE MINUTE REVIEW: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k1V4GMn0swY
Surprisingly entertaining and funny game. Level design mostly very nice lots of details so no empty feeling and funny/cool different halloween things. Got bugs and some controls clumsy but it don`t disturbed me, because this feels like a B class horror movie in good way so it fits to this game. Asylum DLC compared to main game is more serious/adult-like and got little bit Outlast game feelings to it. Bad things that your friends and whole game got very little dialog and voice acting very poor so especially friends feels like a unnecessary/boring because they don`t comment anything fun etc.. talk to you nothing but the same boring short sentences. but a game that is fun and entertaining, I enjoyed always when playing it so 7/10
