Every price cut of more than 20% we have observed, in each market that quoted one, with this game's chart position on either side of it. These are episodes, not a model: a sale is one event, and one event cannot tell you what the next one will do.
Reviews, worldwide (the counter carries no country): 1/day in the week to Aug 24 → 1.43/day in the week after.
For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 26 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 7 places towards #1, and the 2,402 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.
About
As you turn the pages, you'll make choices, face down enemies, and grow. You can charge in with a sword in hand, talk your way out of danger, or simply ignore it and keep walking.
Every choice you make and every roll of the dice changes the way the world responds to you.
Yoshio Nishimura, a 30-year veteran of the games industry from Vanillaware (Odin Sphere, Dragon's Crown, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim), spent six years in a remote Japanese mountain village crafting this game on his own.
Every single one of the 300+ illustrations was drawn by his own hand. No generative AI was used at any stage. This game has a soul that can only be found in something truly handmade.
Elden Ring, Baldur's Gate 3, Dungeon Meshi — Beneath the fantasy worlds we celebrate today lie the gamebooks and tabletop RPGs that first gave them form.
Veritas Tales returns to that moment — to the true weight and texture of swords, sorcery, and rolls of the dice. Savor once again what we first called fantasy, on pages that remember how it all began.

Such a comfortable old-school sword and sorcery fantasy ambience and some of the most beautiful art ever put to a game. Only a little ways in, but I could hang out in this world all day. Reminds of my Crimson Shroud, and not just because of Sakimoto's masterful soundtrack. Though it must be said that a Sakimoto OST will always be worth the price of admission alone.
Classic and refreshing RPG adventure! The art style and character designs are so good! There's so many choices and different ways to progress! I love that you discover the story bit by bit by exploring and interacting with everything! I've unlocked the completionist ending, but I definitely didn't see all the events! Nevertheless, I'm truly satisfied with this game and I need more!

A fairly fun tabletop-RPG-like experience. Gorgeous art combined with Choose-your-own-adventure style gameplay and dice rolling combat. My main issues ended up being with the dice system, since an RNG being able to mess up your playthrough is one of my oldest pet peeves with videogames. Not only in combat either, but choosing a narrative option and then failing the dice check and having to rewind just feels... bad. Still, I played through it twice thanks to its innate charm. The game does engourage two playthroughs to understand the entire story from each protagonist's perspective, but I don't think that's entirely nescessary if you don't feel like it. The story does end up quite ridiculous by the end in any case.
非常喜欢这种慢慢读故事的感觉,因为有配音所以并不用全程盯着文字。UI操作简洁方便,我还觉得挺好。
Very good gamebook with a nostalgic and yet great look. The artist who did all the ilustrations is a master, and it can be seen in the care and details he put into each image. The game has two characters and requires two playthrough to see everything, so it has a good length with 4-5h for each one. Recommended!
68/100 Not Positive but a Mixed review. Finished the game while playing Paneri the Mage. Personally I was looking forward to a deep 'create-your-own-adventure' game but instead it's an absolute fever dream of a story with decision making that doesn't matter in 90% of cases or alternatively forced deaths ("Return to Page 14") Almost wanted to give this a Negative review but the artstyle, music and attention to details are good enough to pass as Mixed .
The good
+ Artstyle sticks out positively immediately + Music is decent + Voice acting is good enough + Performance is flawless + Many rewards and secret items to find, purchase or loot + Healthy balance when it comes to combat with many options to choose from
The bad
- No ingame options such as skipping already seen text or changing text speed - The game presents itself as a deep RPG with meaningful decision making but unfortunately the vast majority of decisions are in reality: "Option 1 = Continue Adventure or Option 2 = Die and Reload Save" - Sorry, but the main story once you reach the Dark Castle makes little to no sense going forward, even if you exhaust all dialogues and collect everything - A few dice roll and coin flip scenarios feel very weird/fake (Rolling only 1 or 2 for many times in a row) - Example of Story plot holes:
Ending states "You can't die from having your soul removed, since it is your own power". And yet you can literally die from it on multiple occasions earlier in the game if you chose the dialogue options.
"Return to Page 14, Return to Page 14, Return to Page 14, Return to Page 14, Return to Page 14, Return to Page 14, Return to Page 14, Return to Page 14, Return to Page 14"
I played this game in Japanese for language practice. I'd recommend it to anyone at upper-intermediate level or above! There's no furigana (although some difficult words are written out for you in hiragana), and some of the kanji are obscure, but I loved the charming writing and had no issue making my way through the game before rolling credits as Paneri. As Nishimura-sensei had hoped, I'm glad this game granted me some bonus experience on my language adventure! The illustrations, classic-although-short Sakimoto soundtrack, and evocative writing really drew me in (although, as above, I can't speak for the English translation). The various choices are interesting and fun, and I found myself reloading again and again to try to find the best way to solve each room. The game does feel exactly like playing a gamebook with your wizard grandpa! Fans of tabletop games, Choose Your Own Adventure / Lone Wolf style gamebooks, OR point-and-click adventures (Shadowgate / Deja Vu / Uninvited, Monkey Island, Myst, etc) should get this game. Same if you loved the storytelling in 13 Sentinels, which I'd say is the closest of the Vanillaware games to this one. Note: you must enjoy reading and be ok with limited action to enjoy this game! Play thru the demo if you're on the fence. If I could make only one suggestion for improvement, it'd be level scaling. I tried my best to do everything in the game, so I was overleveled by the end (lvl 21), and that stole some thunder from the ending section... but maybe that's fine, too, since it was fun to crush everything! All in all, this was a fun and satisfyingly short adventure. I'd love to see more games in this style, because the gamebook idea is ripe for a revival! I'll definitely buy any further installments of Veritas Tales!
