Experienced on the Meta Quest 2
You can view my gameplay & early impressions here: https://youtu.be/HqTmhA5AKZM This is a good game. In a sense, it is the VR obstacle course that I always wanted & just nobody ever made. This is a challenging, grueling game. It starts out easy enough, but soon will challenge your wit, stamina, & reflexes. It's got deadly traps, lots of climbing, swinging action, zip-lines, archery, blocking, & other surprises that I don't want to spoil. It's a beautiful game as well. I always wanted an obstacle course that had high-end graphics. There's so many parkour or climbing games with cartoony graphics. I wanted one based on reality. One that feels like you're actually taking on a real-world, if somewhat fantastical, obstacle course. It's almost like real-life American Ninja Warrior, except you don't have to a be a top athlete to take on this physical challenge (although it helps). It's not perfect though. My main complaint is that the grabbing mechanic needs to be perfectly tuned for this type of obstacle course where you have leaderboards. The "hit box / grab box" didn't always look right. Sometimes I thought I had grabbed on to something and it just didn't grab. Sometimes you have to chain grabs together to overcome some of the challenges, but I think it was either a frame rate issue or input lag, but it just didn't feel as smooth & polished as it should have. I often had to slow down to a complete stop in order to grab the correct object. You shouldn't have to stop your whole momentum when you're in a race in order to grab correctly. However, I don't want to make the game sound bad, because it's really good. However, it just needs some Quality of Life improvements to reach greatness. I think this could be the best climbing game in VR ever, but it needs some polish & fine tuning. It's in Early Access though, so it's off to a very promising start. Game is running on the Unreal Engine. On my RTX 3080, I was getting mostly 90 fps, but I did notice some frame rate drops at times, along with some very slight stutter, and some very slight pop-in (high definition textures showing properly when you got close). You do have arm-swing locomotion in order to race. You do have snap turning as well. I do think you need to play standing and be able to reach around in order to make the obstacle not more difficult that it needs to be. This game is intense. After a little over an hour, I was completely drenched in sweat. I played today and I feel completely sore. I had a blast. Looking forward to the official release. Rate 7/10. Really good climbing / parkour / obstacle course game. Could be the best game of this type with some more polish. I am wondering how a stamina system may work in this game to make it even more intense ...
Please note: I received a free Steam key through the Steam Curator Connect program.
Experienced on the Valve Index
The play time is inaccurate, I actually played for about 3 hours. Loved this game, If you like games like The Climb and Eye Of The Temple, this will be right up your street. A definite workout! Awesome music and level design, lots of climbing and traversing obstacles. There is plenty of challenges to keep you busy here, some of the stages have huge scale and hard difficulty. I got to the final levels and ran out of shoulder steam. I can safely recommend this game if you are into the genre. Just remember to rest a minute and take in the beauty of the game world. This is a type of game that I looking for. Workout & Explore in the same time. It may have some issues in early access stage but If dev continues fixed and optimize and add more content. This game have a potential to be game of the year in VR Workout.
Abandoned Game: Developers have not addressed major issues with the INDEX CONTROLLER for over 2 months despite claiming to be working on a fix. Major Bugs: Problems include: Hand tilt in-game Drifting movements due to incorrect hand positioning Frustrating Gameplay: Spent minutes trying to figure out how to jump to get over the first obstacles (lasers on the ground). No jump feature in the settings, making it impossible to proceed. Suspicious Reviews: Many positive reviews seem to be from people who got the game for free, likely developers or their friends. Warning to Index Users: If you own an Index and play with Index controllers, STAY AWAY FROM THIS GAME!!! Cons - The game was released on steam but does not support the steam hardware. - This game features no possible way to jump, the movement system is garbage, and overall gameplay is lackluster - Graphics look like they were made for the quest (they even feature quest as the headset of choice in their ads) - again they release it on steam but do not support the index or the knuckles. Pros - There are none. - Go buy Pistol Whip instead (Constant updates, brand new modes, the game has been out 5 years and still gets frequent content and patches and updates and you can build your own maps now and download custom maps) Final Review = Negative "I do not recommend this trash heap of abandoned software) Cons 5 Pros 0
Update 12/25/23 : Looks like this game is dead. No updates or news since August. No responses to my posts or emails. I had to quit playing because there are no saves until the end of a course and if there is an obstacle you can't get pass you are stuck because there is NO limit on tries. If you are ok with those things I still recommend it because the graphics and immersion are great. Game of the Year for fitness. I am in my mid 60's and this is just what I was looking for, a great workout that does not have a lot of pounding on my heel. I was always a big fan of the obstacle course on wii fit and was hoping someone would do a VR obstacle course and this is it. The environment is awesome and the courses very challenging. The courses are very long, it took me over 2 hours to complete the 3rd course. The game could use some more save points so you could take a break if you are having a hard time with a particular challenge. A really great addition would be a maximum attempts in the settings where you could set a number like 10 tries after which you could skip that obstacle. There was one point in course 3 that had a hand over hand hanging ladder with back and forth lasers and blinking lasers that took me over a hundred tries to get past. I hope the devs continue to develop courses for a long time.
Works on Reverb G2. Disclaimer: I've received this game for free via Curator Connect. Venture's Gauntlet VR looked promising in Early Access, but the release version severely questified the graphics and then added visual glitches and gamebreaking bugs. It is currently unplayable on PC and has been this way for almost half a year.
Yeah finally i love this game :) Disclaimer: I first came across this game during pre-release. There was a Demo, which I tried and I liked it, then I joined the public beta when it became available and submitted feedback and bug reports (the developers are quite responsive, and the game that was already good at the time of the beta it is now even better). I am receiving a complimentary copy free of charge, but I am not receiving any money for writing this review.
Can't really play it as first obstacle is bugged.
Unfortunately as much as I recalibrated myself and reset my height in Steam, etc. I just couldn't duck low enough to get under anything, I would constantly get stuck. I had to quit put of the game and play something else, happily I got this as part of a bundle but this should really be sorted so I can play it at all.
