About
ROGUE-FP is a blend of old school classic roguelike gameplay with new school first person controls and perspective. There is no movement grid and no rigid turn system to slow you down.
The Fighters guild has a high bar for entry. They want you to delve deep into the Dungeons of Doom and return to the surface with the Amulet of Yendor! A perilous quest few have completed, for within the dungeon are terrible monsters, devious traps, and mystifying magical items.
To survive you'll have to identify the dungeon's items, navigate it's procedurally generated dark labyrinths, and fight your way past it's monsters. With enough skill and a decent amount of luck they say it can be done. Give it your best shot!
Just like in the roguelike days of yore, there are
Procedurally generated levels!
Perma-death!
More than an alphabet's worth of monsters!
Many magic items with different effects including rings, weapons, potions, scrolls, and wands!
Yummy slime molds!
But in ROGUE-FP there’s also
First person controls
A innovative smooth turn system
No grid to restrict your movement
Multiple bonus dungeons
Hacked off bits of monsters to stick onto your armor
ASCII art sprites
Dungeonsynth soundtrack
A difficulty level for every level of skill, including one that removes item identification
Your personal gold hoard that grows larger with every run

I did all the sprites
It's Rogue, but in First Person. Smooth controls, good graphics, and a really enjoyable soundtrack. Along with a few improvements over the original Rogue, this is a fun, new way to enjoy the classic game. As of the time of this review, it's a complete experience but still actively being improved by the developer.
To those who have quested long and hard, for the perfect rogue-like experience that many have sought after, this may JUST be the game for you, finally after all of these long hard painful years of trying to find the perfect rogue-like game, what better one than to revision the one that started it all? I have gone through Dungeon Crawl Stone Soup, Original Rouge, Rogue Wizards, Barony, Delver, and many more, sure they all have wonderful ways to explore a randomly generated dungeon, but something still needed to scratch a certain itch that I can not seem to figure out. Then seeing this in all of its First Person Glory, from changing the graphics to textures, to symbols, ASCII, music, and much more, as I type this, I feel a nostalgic tear forming in my eyes as I finally think my quest for the perfect Rogue-like adventure may have finally been fulfilled. GLORY TO ROGUE-LIKE GAMES!!
This is such an awesome way to play Rogue, and much more beginner friendly. Why this game hasn't been receiving a ♥♥♥♥ load of attention is beyond me. Fantastic game, especially for 5 dollars.
This is an updated version of Rogue (1980) its got a fresh coat of paint, the swap to first person, and time only taking effect when you perform an action. There are two game modes available Dig dungeon and Classic mode. Dig Dungeon is the developers own little twist on the classic with more unique level generation and the addition of monster bits occasionally dropped by slain enemies that provide small bonuses. Classic mode is as close to a faithful recreation as possible to the original for better or for worse.
This is a rather remarkable version of Rogue, and I'm inclined at an early stage of engagement with it to state that it may very well be the definitive version of this storied, honored, and hugely influential classic- especially for modern audiences. The first person perspective totally works and importantly, it still feels 100% like Rogue. Veterans of the game will feel a strong sense of "home" with it, while also enjoying the change in format. The hybrid ASCII/3D graphics are BRILLIANT, capturing Rogue's unique atavism and abstraction without sacrificing modernity. I love the monster bits, which add a fun set collecting angle to equipment upgrades. Again, it's a feature that wasn't in the original game but feels absolutely true to the spirit of the core design. While it doesn't have the ludricous depth, lore, or complexity of Caves of Qud and similar modern roguelikes, there is an elemental simplicity here that is both charming and appealing. The tutorials are excellent and non-obtrusive, and the UI is uniformly excellent and easy to navigate. For five bucks, this has got to be one of the best bang-for-the-buck purchases you can make here on Steam. A respectful but innovative edition that should have a higher profile among today's game players.
I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S NOT ROGUE (1980)!
I feel like this game was made for me, I have always been interested in playing rogue, as I love roguelikes and roguelites, however I always felt like it would be dated and never gave it a try. Well, this game sold it to me, I am playing pure rogue right now, not any imitations or rogue-similars, pure straight up rogue directly into my veins.
its great. open source game engine (GO-DOT) the developer listens and takes your ideas into consideration to improve the game! classic look and feel. played on GNU/Linux
Not a roguelike.
Definitely the best way to play Rogue in 2023, in my opinion. The hybrid artwork is simply gorgeous, and the game plays well as a conversion into semi-real time. Definitely worth the 5 bucks to anyone who wants to experience the granddaddy of roguelikes in a more modern way.
