I can't comment on gameplay because I couldn't even get that far. Control bindings for my X-55 are completely broken. The throttle axis also triggers the X-Axis on the stick and vice versa. VR controllers are about 7inches off centered, but you can disable them. VR centering keeps resetting improperly by itself, and sometimes gets off-set by some random amount so in order to center again I have to look away and guess. Mouse sensitivity (at least in VR) is way off. 0% on the slider is slow but usable, 1 tick up is ridiculously fast. Maybe in the future it will be fixed, or maybe it'll work for you. It's good that steam has an amazing return policy.
It is Podracing in VR. But this is more than a quick cash grab taking advantage of Lucasarts/Disney completely failing at capitalizing on their IP. The real standout feature makes this actually more of a scifi 'land craft' building simulator with physics than anything else. The garage gives you wide freedom to apply different components in a range of placements where you can also set the rotation of each component. This is not just cosmetic, though; every placement of components has mass and, based on placement and rotation, changes your craft's Center of Gravity (COG). In turn, your lift and thrust components exert force in a VECTOR which radically changes your craft's performance based on their angle and relation to COG. If that wasn't enough, you can also program how the thrust/lift components perform when given the various pitch/roll/yaw inputs. This results in a great physics simulator where based on your level of engineering a craft, you can accidentally make a dud that can't fly straight or an amazing racer that performs with some maneuvering quirks that fit your playstyle.
This game is amazing and needs more attention! This is the only game like this i have ever played and so far I am 100% satisfied with the entire concept of it.
Ever since I got a Hotas controller, I was looking for a speed racing game compatible with Hotas. I only played for about an hour but I think this is the game I was looking for. It's really hard to control the ship at first and the learning curve is really stiff .... but I guess it's pretty much worth to try. As a new comer, I wish I could chose any ships in practice mode before I buy them. I want to try different ships but they are way expensive... I think it's gonna take years to buy them with prize credits. And one thing I found a bit strange in this game's control is 'roll' is actually 'yaw' and 'yaw' is 'roll'. With rudder control, the ship rolls. After I switched the control roll and yaw, it was much easier to control the ship. If you have Hotas controller and VR headset, if you're looking for a racing game compatible with Hotas, This game is it.
It's not super pretty to look at and the menus could use a lot of work, but the core if this is a hell of a lot of fun in VR. I really hope this gets the updates it deserves!
Be prepared for a learning curve, I feel a lot of these negative reviews are from impatient players who refused to go through the tutorial or didn't take seriously the need to learn a new gameplay style. There's nothing else quite like this game- it's one of those "one of a kind" kinds of things. If if looks interesting to you at all, get it. this is the sort of game that has the potential to become a cherished part of your library for decades.
SUPER FUN !!! VR IS AWESOME!!!
YO THIS ♥♥♥♥ IS TIGHT! TAKES A WHILE TO GETS MY HOTAS RIGHT BUT THEN ITS FUN AS HELL
Good premise undermined by terrible UI and obtuse technical settings for modifying ship. Very difficult to get into game and actually play. Lack of support.
Bad Ass! Seriously could use some TLC at the garage for placing things more precisely but, an absolute BAD ASS game.
