There are not that many nostalgic activities that we can experience in VR and luckily Slotracing is included! Luckily this time your mom doesn't come into your room with orders to clean up your toys another advantage is that you can build tracks here without restrictions on parts, even many decorative items that many of us never had before. In Slothracers VR you can do a campaign with (I believe) 27 tracks? You can ride these tracks alone or together with others via online multiplayer with 1 of the many neat available vehicles. I did not add them up, but there are certainly in the 20, including 2 versions of the infamous Tesla car. Fortunately, the game also has a steam workshop available where players can share self-built tracks with the rest of the Slothracing community on steam. Currently there are no vehicles available at the workshop, if this were possible in the future this would be very cool! so you can build tracks yourself but you can also build a track together with others via the online multiplayer options, this is undoubtedly very interesting for players who have high ambitions to build gigantic racing tracks. Obviously, such a project requires a lot of time, the more helping hands can participate, the faster such a project is ready. There are also different home locations that you can choose to build in, one is a bit more compact than the other and the other is much larger than one location. In the game you also have a 'race monitor' where you can start racing, once the players are ready you will hear the start tone counting down and when the lights change from red to green, start racing. Over the tracks there are or can place checkpoints, these are very useful for when a racer gets out of the corner or just drive recklessly fast everywhere on the track, when this happens this racer will spawn at the last passed checkpoint, if this happens during freestyle driving you will have to manually place the car back on the track. For what Slotracing should entail, Slotracer VR is sufficient, perhaps some 'entertainment' while building or playing could be pleasant in the form of more music or possibly an option to play internet radios. ps: If you were thinking of a new nostalgic VR experience for the future, what do you think about marble tracks? ;) Here is a video of a workshop map that i've made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xqwyOR2NCo8 You can download the track and other tracks in the workshop of the game on steam.
Played on HP Reverb G2 (WMR) without issue. There is much attention to detail in this game. Track, scenery, buildings, lighting, terrain... the number of different pieces available to build your own full race course is impressive. There are also pre-built tracks and a campaign mode against AI racers if you want to just jump in and start racing. Slot car racing without the massive space requirements. It's fun and you can play with friends (friends sold separately).
Sehr schade. Ich hatte mich sehr darauf gefreut
I was gonna try it for 15 min, when i noticed more than an hr had passed. It was what i expected, actually i understood its an indie endeavor, but it surpassed my expectations. Cooperatively building the tracks was easy and a great time!, it was easy to join/create rooms, and to save and share the tracks. And i got a steady 120fps with a 1080 and a 3600, so performance was pretty good. The game still needs polish in a few parts, like the pieces menu need to be portable (not going to the table), and deleting should also have easy access, and cloning is a bit weird with the index, the trigger sensitivity curve should be corrected or lowered so the cars speed is easier to "handle". The cars need a bit more "weight" to them, the "drifting" if it happens is very small, and one thing i remember about playing this irl is exactly that slide / whiping motion in hard corners. I recommend this because it honestly is a game ive wanted to play since the original scalextric tracks i remember from my childhood where lost. Maybe the current full price is a bit on the high side, but the game right now is solid, easy to use, and it works.
Experienced on the Oculus Quest 2
You can view my review & gameplay here: https://youtu.be/MXnP2NvcQh0 I think my video review pretty much says it all. Keep in mind, on the Oculus Quest 2, I had to push the B button and trigger in order to start races. I loved building my own tracks with the in-game editor. The racing itself wasn't the best as it's really a one button control type system (press trigger). Although it is more complicated than that because you have to slow down on curves or you'll jump the track so you have to know when to push on the gas and when to let go. It can be difficult to keep track of the racer, especially in the night time tracks. You do have full locomotion and smooth and snap turning options, as well as teleportation available. I did notice some clunky interactions, such as starting the race not being as simple as pressing trigger even though that is what is shown in the game. Also just grabbing the vehicle or the RC sometimes took more than one try. Game is running on the Unity Engine, unfortunately, it needs optimization. I had variable frame rates on my RTX 3080 and the stutter was noticeable, even when I lowered super-sampling to just 100%. It did effect gameplay. Also, I had some problems when first starting up the game, it seems to be stuck on loading (a simple retry fixes this issue). I had more fun than than I thought I would with this game. The racing isn't the best. However, the in-game editor is great. It's very simple to use and it's a lot of fun making your own racetracks and easily uploading your creation to the Steam Workshop for others to enjoy. It's very chill and relaxing to race in your own racetrack. There are 27 total tracks in game. The AI is okay to race against. I was unable to try online PvP but it does exist. In any event, you can try to beat the time of others on the leaderboards for each race. There are 10 total cars and many skins for each vehicle. More importantly, there's a plethora of tools / objects to play with using the in-game editor. You can make so many different kinds of tracks. I just hope a way to terraform easily is added, plus just more stuff to add to the tracks. The in-game editor is a game changer and is the main reason I recommend this game! Klare Empfehlung. 👍 Video folgt.
First off this game is great in theory. I personally don't have the time, funds or space for a real life setup. this is a great alternative. My specs sit sorta in the middle of the specs, i5-6600K, 1080ti and 16gb of GDDR4 Ram. and I must say its a great experience! no issues running it! I really enjoyed it! some tracks/car combos can be tricky but still great none the less! and I'm sure with practice it will get easier. (I did have issues at first but fixed them) I did manage to fix the issues I had of it not launching properly etc. A complete re-install of the game and changed my steam VR settings (somehow the rendering resolution got changed to a really high resolution randomly) and it fixed it!)
Unfortunately, I had to return it and ask for a refund. What I didn't like at all was the extreme ghosting effect when you follow the cars with your eyes, which makes the car movements very jerky. Especially in a game like this, I'm sure you'll find it very annoying. I spent an hour in the funny track editor and needed a short break. When I came back and put my Rift S back on, the motion controls stopped working and I could only turn around and grab something. So I couldn't reach the other end of the room to press the save button to at least save my track design. Lost all my proud work...very frustrating. If it's available for 4,99€ and further patches have matured the game, then maybe I'll buy it again.
Surprisingly Fun Alone, Great w/ Others
🔥►Meet people PLAYING now (Steam Chat or Voice @ JoinUsInVR) 💬►Voted in ' Top Uniquely Fun Games ' @ JoinUsInVR Group 🏆►VR Giveaways 🏆 https://steamcommunity.com/groups/JoinUsInVR Thought I'd like it, then loved it! The coolest part is multiplayer where you can collaboratively BUILD and play with others. My only dislike is that the cars need to "fish tail" around the corners. Do that, and add a portable pallet of track pieces and clone/delete/spin/mirror buttons in my left hand, and this is a gem! Click into our steam group and join us.
