I have never played a Great War game this captivating Not even Battlefield 1's intro can compare to this game A few bugs here and there but nothing game ruining Definitely do recommend
Tohle není hra, tohle je umění. Umění, které zachycuje hrůzy a krutosti první světové války. 10/10
I remember when this game came out, it was universally appreciated and people incensed its moving story and art style. Personal take: it's a bit of an overrated game. Gameplay is clunky as hell, more often than not objectives are confusing and you end up stuck trying to overcome unclear obstacles (artilley sequences are the worst offender), there are parts of the game plagued by quick time events (why did people make so many back then?), and honestly other than for the blood and themes it plays and feels like a puzzle game for children, not teens. But my main gripe is with the fact it seems very confused about its stance on war. There are lots of little paragraphs about the actual great war curated by historians, which is something very cool that every game about war should have, but from these paragraphs I noticed a tendency to slip into glorification. Also the events of the game bounce back and forth between cinematic hero tropes and the futility and horror of the war. Ultimately what it shows most of the time is the horror and futility, but sometimes it also glorifies the fighters, the victories, the sacrifices, the honour. I don't know, I don't think everything about war should be Come and See or The Ascent, but also seeing this lack of a clear stance seems awfully superficial. Also I hope there's a circle of hell specific for whoever pushed and created Ubisoft Connect and every other proprietary launcher.
