Dora-The-Explorer Word Puzzles, Platforming That Feels Like Molasses, and as Much Story as LaCroix Has Flavour
Gosh, I really wanted to like and recommend this one, but it just flops. I'm kind of baffled by the high reviews and number of awards it's won when it offers so little value to the player. At the time I'm writing this, less than half of players have the achievement for completing the first chapter, and it's not at all surprising that it doesn't take most people much time to drop this game. I'm not sure what the main gameplay appeal of this game is meant to be. It's a mix between word puzzles and platforming, but it's barely passable at the former, flat-out bad at the latter, and chooses to lean more heavily on the one it does a worse job of. The word puzzles are rarely interesting enough to justify building a game around them. Most of them just involve retrieving the letters you need to spell an obvious word, which means they're actually platforming challenges rather than word puzzles. The tense/climactic moments in the game, including
the final boss battle
, also all rely far more on the platforming than the word mechanics. Unfortunately, the platforming that the gameplay relies so much on is clunky, slow, and awkward. Moving around to get anything done in this game feels like work rather than play. Lastly, the narrative. It seems to be about a hero who is good fighting ambiguous oppressors who are bad, and by reading this sentence you now know as much about the plot of this game as you would learn by playing the entire game. This wouldn't necessarily be a huge issue for the game if the gameplay were good. But it isn't.
Sehr tolle Erfahrung.

A beautiful game but unfortunately sooo short! I know it's an indie game but a little more story would've been really nice. The game takes about two hours but if you want to get all achievements, you get quite the playtime out of it.
This is just a good puzzle platformer. It's one downside is that it's pretty short.
Let me start off by saying this is a very clever game. It’s a very simple concept, a land where letters describe the world, but it works to great affect, especially having all the living creatures made of words. The main character himself is made of the letters H E R O. For a negative, a lot of the cutscenes are very long and unskippable, at least on the first playthrough. And after you die, it takes a little unskippable while to respawn. But honestly, those are about the only major negatives I can think of with the game as a whole. Very good and creative game, a decent challenge, and awesome world building. Be sure to pick it up next sale.
This was one of the games that I really wanted to play as a kid. Because i love the premise of words coming to life, and just how the game looks was astonishing for me. I love the dark world vibe to the setting of where the HERO is, I love the characters and even though the last boss was very simple, it was still a good boss tbh. Ill give typoman a 9/10.
I LOVE IT! JUST SO GOOD.
