Tropico 6

I like city builders and Tropico 6 is a decent one. Some prefer previous iterations of the series, and that's their right; they certainly are good games. I, however, like this one quite a bit.

It is a simpler version of the Tropico games. It has the same elements, but lacks a bit of theme and depth. Although not a bad game to start the Tropico series, I would only buy this on sale. Gameplay: 7/10 Graphics: 8/10 Audio: 8/10 Replayability: 7/10 Innovation: 4/10 Value for money: 4/10 (Sale: 8/10) Overall: 63% (Sale: 70%) In short: If you have played some of the other games in the series, this is familar. Too familiar. You get a game with more modern graphics than Tropico 4 and especially Tropico 1. The main feature is that you now build on multiple islands. You can of course adjust that back to a single island in the sandbox. But then I feel it stops there. Everything is much simpler. You produce and export. And you try to get deals that fit your current production. That is about it. In sandbox mode, you can set an end goal, but you do not get any statistics to show how your run compared to others. You don't even get to know how much you have in your swiss bank account at the end of the game. The graphics, sound and audio is as it should be for a modern city builder. Nothing special. Allthough I miss a bit more ambient sounds and more random messages from El Presidente. Bought this game on sale. Played a couple of sandbox games. Felt it was ok use of my free time and money. For a new player to the series, this might be a good start. Let's hope Tropico 7 will be even better.
