Tropico 4 was essentially perfect. This is the worst iteration of the game. They completely upended the game mechanics. You have to completely relearn how to play the game. They ditched some of the most fun characters. It's not fun anymore. Playing it feels like a chore. I played Tropico 4 to destress from work. Tropico 5 is basically a second fulltime job, and if I wanted that, I would just go get one.
I've never tire of this game. Played Tropico since I was a child. Mid 30s now. A timeless comfort game I come back to from time to time and rediscover what makes it a gem of a game.
3/5. Better than six! Cool management game. It's nothing crazy outstanding but it's a good time.
If you ever wanted to know what it feels like to be a totally corrupt island dictator while jamming to non-stop salsa music, Tropico 5 is exactly what you need. jumping back into this brings back so many good memories of just chilling out and building my own goofy banana republic. You start with a tiny colonial town and drag it all the way into the modern age by building plantations, slapping down tourist traps, and raking in cash. The best part is just how funny and relaxed the whole vibe is, especially when your super shady advisors tell you to do totally illegal stuff just to keep the superpowers happy. But let's be real, running a whole island can get pretty messy sometimes. Your citizens will randomly get super mad at you for basically no reason, and trying to keep all the different political groups happy at the same time is a total headache. The military fights are also incredibly clunky, and you might actually lose an election if you forget to magically "fix" the votes at the last second. But honestly, accidentally ruining your own economy and cheating to stay in power is just part of the joke. If you want a sunny, hilarious city builder that doesn't take itself seriously at all, it's totally worth playing.

Fun game, like all Tropico entries. Can't wait to play 6 when it goes on sale at some point.
It's decent. It lacks the soul, charm, and personality of Tropico 4. The radio announcements and music are watered down from previous levels of catchy songs and humor, but the game is decent as a standalone. If you have to pick just one, go to the 1st one or the 4th one and skip this round.
Start on Tropico 4. Kinda the high point, Tho 3 is cheaper and tells you how its going to go. But here they are drifting. No real ideas and the flavor of being Justin Trudeau's Father's lover/baby daddy is played out. So get if you love this series, otherwise why get the collection?
This is a downgrade from Tropico 4 in almost every single way imaginable.
sooo much variety in content when it comes to campaigns, missions, events, level of detail... ventures... and etc. the complete edition of tropico 5 is one of the most entertaining management, city builder, economy simulators out and still totally holds up in 2026. incredibly fun, detailed, full of depth and unique gameplay systems to play around with. of course this rules with it's sandbox mode... buuuuut the campaigns are nice and well paced, each not overstaying their welcome and testing your management skills against different types of islands with different conditions and etc. its incredibly fun and you suprisingly each starts of paced really well. the tutorial element of the game does not force you through a step by step slog but rather just guides you through general goals with a few floating tips and events. it's such a great approach to a complex sim game. im going to cut my review short here... theres a lot more here... a loooooooot! it definitly worth your time at full price in 2026. do not skip this! this is a great entry to get into the tropico games and even complex sim games. it;s so player friendly and fun. tons of humor and quirky events to keep you hooked for days if not weeks... or even months lol. no bugs, which is... expected in 2026 lol. there was nothing that broke my game or took me out. this is an easy one to lose at least 30hrs in... a must play.
