never played any games in this genre but super fun
very cool game
Really good gameplay, though the story is quite simple, I hope that the game is longer.
VERY good metroidvania. Art is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ gorgeous, I could literally look at it all day. Characters are all endearing, it was my first game in the Touhou-verse, and it make me like essentially all of them, especially Cirno and Nitori. Story is nothing crazy, but it is entertaining. Music is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ incredible, literally no complaints here. Exploration is very fun, and combat is immensely satisfying, especially boss fights (I LOVE them). Some nitpicks, and slight negatives I have tho...I think basic attacks costing MP is a bit too much, and it can really slow down the action. I get what they were going for, but still. Platforming is not the best. It is not the worst either, but it is a bit ehhh. Controls are a bit convoluted, and Sakuya feels off when controlled. Kinda floaty and imprecise. Maybe it is just me though. And one actual negative I have, and it truly baffles me...There is no auto-save. You have to constantly search for save points, cos if you die in-between, you lose everything, and I mean EVERYTHING. Map progress, items collected, exp collected, levels received, gems collected, and ofc you have to refight bosses...Yeah it is bad, I have no idea what they were cooking here. That aside tho, Luna Nights is truly amazing, and art with music alone make it worthwhile. Absolutely can recommend!
PEAK
Putting the Touhou universe asside, there aren't many games that feature a “stop time” mechanic. Yet this game manages to make it its core gameplay mechanic while keeping the experience balanced and challenging. The controls are easy to get the hang of (you can also remap the buttons), and moving around is always enjoyable, especially during the platforming sections, which often revolve around managing Sakuya’s time stop abilities. The battles might seem simple with such a powerful ability, but your enemies can be faster than your reaction time and hit you before you can freeze them. What’s more, you’re controlling a glass cannon: powerful but fragile. The slightest mistake could put you in a critical situation. Finally, the game rewards risk-taking with its “Graze” system, adapted from the main series. If an enemy grazes you, you regain HP (or MP if time is frozen), giving you a second chance—even when the situation seems hopeless ! With a story that fits seamlessly into the Touhou lore, a superb soundtrack filled with remixes of already great themes, fun stages and well-designed traps, excellent pixel art, and boss battles with meticulously crafted patterns, Touhou Luna Nights is one of those games you’ll want to play again right after you finish it ! Waiting for Touhou Luna Nights 2 !! (When we'll have more than a one-line tweet from Ladybug as our only source)
