Okay, this is the first review I've ever written. That's the problem with us gamers... oftentimes, we prefer to play games than write stuff. Writing stuff is work! EWW. If you've ever played or seen a Let's Play of the Deep Space Waifu series, you've already got a fairly good idea of what to expect with Touhou Kimono Blast. Even though the dev hasn't mentioned being inspired by it specifically. But that's really doing an injustice, as Kimono Blast takes the "strip-'em-up" concept, and runs so much faster and longer with it. Comparing the two is like comparing a rough draft of something, with the 7th generation model of it! I kid you not, this game is already doing so much as an Early Access game, you will not believe that it's being developed by one person. In terms of game mechanics, Kimono Blast brings over the following: - The "graze" counter, used by the official Touhou series of bullet-hell shooters as a score booster - The "P" gauge that increases your character's firepower as it counts up - Collecting spirit energy that drops from killed enemies, which is both a score increase and a means to raise the "P" gauge. - The movement slowdown button that allows for precision dodging. EDIT: It's worth mentioning that the "P" gauge is also your means of survival. There isn't a separate life meter for your "ship", and taking a hit reduces your "P" gauge by exactly 1 point, granting 1 second of invincibility afterwards. You only get a Game Over if the gauge drops below 1. A system that works surprisingly well, I have never seen this in any other shoot-'em-up. Your mileage may vary... The slowdown button also deserves elaboration. As a player who has only ever read about the Touhou series, not played it, I had to go check for things like this. Here I am very pleased to discover that slowdown can be used, without also firing a secondary weapon. Which is tactically quite useful in this game, where clothing is a target you may not want to destroy too quickly. And that's because a stage can be played quickly to earn a time bonus to your score. But I believe the game is being designed to give greater score rewards, to players who stay the course and ignore that bonus. Which reminds me... the scoring system in Deep Space Waifu blows. Imagine having only one thing that scores points in a stage. ONE! Now imagine that the only modifier to that is the difficulty setting you pick. Now imagine that picking up that one thing is harder than it needed to be for a game like this. That's literally all we got, which is SO LAME. KB's dev clearly knows that even casual shmup players demand so much more than that, and it's here. More scoring opportunities are available in a level, and you can earn a higher multiplier during the end-level tally to boost your final score, depending on your performance in certain aspects like grazing. An excellent system that DSW couldn't be bothered with. Exceptionally fine artwork as well. If you're an unrepentant "man of culture" like me, no doubt you'll appreciate every subtle high-definition curve as you zoom in and... 'nuff said really! The game is being developed to try and appeal to Touhou fans, DSW fans, casual shmup fans like myself, and potentially even newcomers. I am unable to gauge if it will succeed in appealing to the Touhou fans, but it absolutely deserves to. The potential of the "strip 'em up" concept could go supernova, if the Touhou community embraces it in force. And I freely admit I would like to see that. I don't just recommend this game. I HIGHLY recommend it!
very enjoyable expierience all around, diffulty is pretty accurate. cirno is the strongest fairy -After beating the game on the hardest difficulty i can say that cirno is definetly the strongest character currently, for lower difficulties meiling or should i say orange is a much easier character with her increased health. - very good way to learn touhou games as the difficulty really is not hard - Only problem is that i wish i had more incentive to replay - Strangely lower difficultys tend to have longer boss fights as your projectiles get blocked, compared to higher difficulty where you do have to dodge more but you end up with a more fluid experience compared to lower difficulties Overall the gameplay is great, music is good though wish there was more tracks for each fight, wish there was more control over the cg scenes but thats a small complaint 9/10 Game highly recommend
Touhou Kimono blast is actually a pretty good game, doesn’t have too many bugs, isn't all that too expensive and is fun to play. It isn’t the most difficult game there is, the highest difficulty is maybe a bit too easy, A harder difficulty would be nice. Even if the game doesn’t have that many bugs so is it still far from perfect, bullets randomly disappearing or going on their own adventure. Some indestructible cloth pieces (graphical error due to it disappearing later). The screen suddenly going 100 mph in a direction and because it doesn't move you, may it lead to you getting hit by a stationary bullet that did move with the screen. Or just the black fairy that for some reason can make some bullets completely invisible (can you atleast only make it partially invisible). She isn't a bug... just unbalanced. It also feels like safe mode isn’t safe enough, but hey, what did you expect from a game that originally is NSFW.
