I love the setting and the diplomatic options

I'm still in my first campaign as England, and the loop already has me hooked. Owning settlements, deciding whether each one becomes a castle or a city, training troops, tracking AI alliances, and growing an economy that can actually fund all of it — every layer feeds into the next. The attention to detail is what really stands out for a 2006 game: little touches like the short cutscene when an assassin takes out a commander feel genuinely ahead of their time. I'm playing on max difficulty and the AI is sharp and aggressive. You have to think carefully about the order in which you expand and which alliances you lock in before declaring war, because if you're not paying attention you'll suddenly find yourself defending a four-front war with no friends left. It rewards patience and punishes greed. If you're into strategy or the medieval era, definitely pick it up on sale. It feels like an engaging, layered game of chess. 7.5/10.
good game
It still hits that nostalgia button for me. Needs some external support for the crashing issue. But with all of the community support it is still well worth the investment.
