What a fun game. It's crazy how much difference 3 years can make and switching to another studio--a great decision and one of the few times in the industry where it was actually for the better. All the mechanics that were so sluggish in the games preceding this one, are now quick, automatic, and fluid this time around. Emphasis more on action and timing. QTE stuff felt unneeded and buggy but not a problem. In terms of difficulty it's strange because most of the game is really easy, especially all the puzzles, but then there are some sections like in the Kazakhstan level where it spikes like crazy for a moment. The level before the final tomb is really drawn out and has you backtrack through the whole thing and then the final tomb is extremely rushed/short, which at that point it was kind of needed. The graphics are a step up from previous titles but the art direction for locations quite bland. The overall story has a similar problem; I wasn't too interested in the idea of Lara's motivation to do everything being in pursuit to save or find her mom. Something about that in a Tomb Raider game seemed a little too generic. The Ghana level stood out to me as having the best level design and the first motorcycle section along with that were my favorite parts. Didn't run into too many bugs aside from sudden turn-arounds after climbing something or no grab detection on swinging ropes a few times. The character designs are all super exaggerated, kinda silly. Lots of 'perplexing' outfits but actually very unique and artistically creative, I quite liked the fashion of many of the secondary characters and monsters, especially the yakuza boss, Amanda's winter cloak style, and the final boss. It's such an early 2000's game but still holds up great today. 7/10
Fantastic game, even though it’s twenty years old. The story/cutscenes are really fun too
Непоганий пригодницький екшн, рекомендую.
I remember this game fondly as being the first good Tomb Raider game in a long while that got the franchise back on the right track after it has gone downhill in the early 2000s. This game combined stunning graphics at the time with cool and challenging levels and a lot of cool costumes that you can all unlock by actually playing the game and mastering the levels to beat the time trials instead of having to pay for lame costume DLCs that all look the same like in the 2013/16/18 reboot games (although these are good games, too). This game is currently on sale for less than 1€ and that's an absolute steal -- I would buy it again if I didn't already own it twice -- once on Steam and on a physical DVD from the time when that was still a thing...

this game stopped working less than halfway through
Игра хорошая, ностальгию дает, но уровень Казахстана такая залупа кривая и невозможная
Today, I finished Tomb Raider: Legend on PC through Steam. I finished the main campaign in its normal difficulty setting while getting a lot but not all of the optional collectibles using a high definition texture pack, upscaled videos and some general quality of life improvements to make it run well in modern systems. I initially followed a guide to get the collectibles, but quickly stopped caring too much about them, and just raw dogged the rest of the game without any guide or cheats. Tomb Raider: Legend is the first game in the first reboot of the Tomb Raider franchise, a much needed refresh after seven games of endearing but clunky controls and a long standing and somewhat unwieldy storyline. It doesn't retread the story of any of the prior games, but tells its own, with a lot of focus on the titular Lara Croft and her past, specifically with the fate of her mother and how it pushed her into becoming who she is today. It also holds the honor of being one of the two Tomb Raider games I have already finished before this very moment, although luckily I had forgotten most of the story and gameplay beats before my latest playthrough. The story it tells is one filled with just enough thrilling set-pieces, colorful one-note characters and witty one-liners to give James Bond a run for its money. It's nothing of particular note, but it services the game properly, propelling the story forward at a breakneck speed and offering enough justification for its globetrotting setting changes, constant wardrobe switch-ups and genre-shifting enemy encounters. The game shines in its gameplay, both figuratively and literally, as the visuals, albeit aided by modern touch-ups, hold up incredibly well, with gorgeous vistas, expressive character models, and stunning art design in pretty much every spot of the game. The music is also surprisingly memorable, and well placed throughout the experience. Lara, while not as polished as her most recent outings, controls very well, making traversal fun and engaging, although a few camera hiccups, finicky hit detection, and a touch in lack of clarity do make a few spots a bit grating and require a few retries. The combat is simplistic and hit or miss, in more ways than one, as it's custom with this franchise, but it does its job well enough. The bosses function at times more like puzzles, which helps in making the encounters memorable and interesting to traverse, although the first couple of tries of figuring out what the intended, and somewhat obtuse solution is, may get a bit grating at times. The game, by nature of its release date in the mid 2000s is plagued by QTEs, which are quite forgiving, and funny to fail, but do tend to come out of nowhere at times and hinder the experience just a tad. The collectibles are mostly fun to figure out, although they do tend to mess with the pace and fun of the experience, and in my opinion, are more of a second playthrough element if one desires to tackle them. The provocative camera shots, cleavage-ridden outfits and sultry line delivery certainly screams of the decade and feel of the franchise at the time, and while your mileage may vary when it comes to how it lands to you, I found it endearing, fun and mostly inoffensive. In conclusion, Tomb Raider: Legend is a beautiful, thrilling joyride through the stylized landscapes of Bolivia, Peru, Nepal, Japan and so many other locales, with a capable, badass and lovely tour guide in our protagonist. The tone may be uneven, and the franchise's lean into the supernatural never felt more jarring than it does in this game, but it hardly seems to matter once you've swung on the bars, jumped on the platforms and climbed on the ledges as many times while enjoying every single moment of it. Lara Croft. What a lady. Legend. GREAT ◆◆◆⬖
