Tomb Raider IV: The Last Revelation (1999)

This game doesn't run well on modern equipment but, thankfully, the producers have created newer versions with better graphics that allow you to play it with the classic gameplay. While the core gameplay is still as fun as always, the level construction is lacking and the introductory training sequence is tedious. The story, however, is compelling enough that, at the time of its release, I eagerly awaited the release of what turned out to be the worst installment of the series, "Angel of Darkness".

After the previous three games, I realized the developers back then were more focused on gameplay than story. The game, like its predecessors, leaves much to be desired in terms of adding new features. Vehicle controls are clunky, the button to exit to the main menu or settings is hard to find, it's still impossible to control the camera with the mouse, there are sound bugs, and so on. The studio's downfall is that they haven't fundamentally changed subsequent games with each installment, only introducing a few tweaks and features. I wouldn't say I enjoyed the game, but the final cutscene caught my attention. It's a good game for a newbie to get a feel for the old games, but it's not a great continuation of the franchise. Overall I give it a 4/10

Like the other PS1-era Tomb Raider games before it, it runs like ♥♥♥♥ and is borderline unplayable in this state on a modern PC.

Excellent story, music, graphics and gameplay. Top tier for it's time

All of the mainline Tomb Raider games are amazing, and this is one of those. This game is underrated as hell and sometimes I can see why it is maybe a little overlooked compared to the other entries. Probably most interesting about this TR is it is the first game in the series to ha any sort of open world elements like the modern series, and is the only one to play play like 3D metroidvania that encourages to really explore all of your surroundings.

Возвращение к корням с глубоким сюжетом и мрачной атмосферой. Большая часть истории происходит в Египте, с упором на мифологию. Более серьёзная, задумчивая и сюжетно насыщенная, чем предшественники.
