I thoroughly enjoyed this game - and yes, the humor is sophomoric and the voice acting is tongue-in-cheek, but it just works for me. It's an old-school general's type game from the SSI era and as everyone else has already said, in line with the modern Fantasy General. More importantly, I think the strategic design is really well thought out - the units each have their niche but aren't hobbled by hyper-specialization. And while the maps are static, and prior map-knowledge is extremely advantageous, it also opens up the pursuit of battle perfection. There are a couple quirks that stood out in my playthrough: [list] [*] There's no save and quit option - if you have to quit mid-map, you will have to start over from the beginning. I have no problem with always-on ironman, but with two kids, it would be nice to be able to quit anytime. [*] Audio levels seem to be all over the place - especially the voice acting, which I oh-so-love. If anything, voice audio should not be tied to map zoom, that would help a ton.
This game is incredibly polished, consider rather short period, in which this game has been developed. Never the less, it still has few places here and there, that can be improved. While playing, I was looking at both game play and technical aspects of the game, which did result with left feedback for devs. Response was very positive, leading to improved overall gaming experience. This game is turn based RPG like, where for each mission, you lead group of units, to tackle challenges. You need take care carefully for your units, as every move, can be critical, for overall mission result. It is however almost certain, that you will fail at least once at each mission. If units are taken care of, then their gain important skills. What positively surprised me, are written and read humoristic narration and dialogues. They are not too long, so they keep entertained. Also, they can be skipped easily, if playing map again, or simply don't want to listen rambling :) However for some, little back story may be interesting. The quality of landscape and units is very neat. Lack of animations, like walking and fighting, is actually appealing, for this kind of figurine games. Is like board, or table games, where units were represented by plastic/metal painted little figures. On one hand landscape looks simplistic, but is done with details, as well as 3D models. Interface is smooth and well stylistically made. Only 'but' I have, is speed of rotating camera. This setting option seams missing still. Music background is nice, but may get a bit boring after while. Some variety may be recommended. Other sound effects are grand, for this style of game. For little time I played however, I really like overall look and handle. Someone who like this kind of games, will really enjoy. I think pricing is also well balanced atm.
PROS: Outstanding board-game styled graphics and gameplay. Great music and sound effects. Some dialogue had me legit laughing out loud. CONS: Terrain height offers no bonuses or penalties to attack/defense. No attacks of opportunity against units leaving an enemy's melee range. I've been enjoying this game quite a bit and am excited to see how it progresses in the future!
I like the combat especially the way it treates counter and support attacks. Each unit has slightly different rules. So if you position yourself right you can sometimes get up to 3 attacks on enemy's one attack and that's all on ENEMY's turn. :D https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LdkY9Ui8ZXk
Fairly standard old school turn-based strategy gameplay, but what shines for this title is the story and writing. It's like a Monty Python board game, hilarious and silly in the face of evil. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bznnmDSOnY0
Nice game. Like another said, it's highly similar to Fantasy General. If you have played that game or Panzer General/Corps you will be playing in no time. The only negative for me was I did not care for the voice acting. I think they are going for a Monty Python style of humor but did not "click" with me. Overall, a nice "beer and pretzel" type strategy game.
Nice little turn-based tactics game with enough depth and nuance to keep things interesting without bogging the player down in exceptions or fidgety UI elements. Overall the game is quite simple, fluid, and organic, with a nice meta-progression campaign layer where you maintain and upgrade units, a la Panzer Corps. The art style is excellent, the game captures the feeling of a table-top game very well. TB!HC is clearly a labor of love -- the rules are very well thought-out, easy to remember, and obviously very well playtested. Would love to see multiplayer PBEM added in the future.
Good AI. Good story. Challenging. You will want to finish the story.
Love the game. Plays like an old school battle board game, but with added Monty Pyton on top. What's not to like about it!
