Nope. I struggled to give this one a chance. From a technical standpoint, it's fine. Graphics are good, no glitches, combat system is simple, economics could use work but not a big deal. But the voice acting and the writing are nothing short of dreadful. I might have given it a pass, chocked it up to being geared towards the humor of a grade-schooler, until one of the characters said "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥". Nope. Voice acting is a bunch of amateur Americans doing their Ye Olde Timeie Englishetheth Gov'nah accent, the writing is at par with Adam Sandler. "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ my breeches" kind of stuff. I wish I were being sarcastic, but that's actual dialog. Nice idea. Needed to be made by an entirely different group of people.
To Battle!!! (much rejoicing.) Hell’s Crusade as they put it is old school turn base play. Very old school. It is satirical medieval turn base with two early options for you in campaign and veteran play. How would I describe it? It has a style of tabletop figurines battling in a chess strategic format warfare and childish humor. It has some pros and cons. Pros: Game play: Hexagon play, easy to learn, move, action and kill or be killed chess play. Leveling up soldiers and some bonus terrain. No real micro managing supplies, building stuff, or expense sheet accounting to worry about. Check. Tactics: The Tactical warfare is very easy to grasp with multiple in turn purposes, classes and base function to each unit. Like Chess, the Bishop does one thing, Rook another. From Peasants to Scouts, with progression upgrading and trait bonuses. So far so good. Narrative: An attempt at Python storytelling, narration, and very little luck involved. Choppy voice overs that showcases the table-top battlefield. Shrug my shoulders...ok Presentation: Very easy purchasing layout, UI friendly, decent controls, tutorial, and more potential additions and perks later on. Sounds good to me. Combat: Some challenging battles that you can either overwhelm or out maneuver the enemy. Have at Thee! Visual: Special effects of sounds and grunts are passable, could have been more dynamic, but gets the job done. CONS: Humor: Very choppy story with some tolerable voice acting. The main issue, its not that funny to attempt this sort of humor, but it does not take itself that seriously. They would have been better served with more humorous professional writing and crisp profound voices. Delivery matters. Even funny animation to match would have helped. Very difficulty to do and pull it off with figurines. You cannot teach funny. It either is or isn't. Slight con for me. Aesthetics: Unless you get in close, very hard to see the detail and variant color schemes of the armies. I would have liked to have seen this scaled up with players able to customize those figures. May need a figurine case to show your entire army instead of cutting it off at a certain number. Makes army management difficult at times. Capped: The lack of factions and another game that limits the army sizes and confrontations. Go 50 vs 50 if you have to. Nothing new in 6 vs 12 or capped battle options. No player vs player modes, and with only two factions for now. Limits the game. Adding multiple factions and great humor that fit those factions. You can expand the storylines and gameplay That may change, but con for me. Concept Design: Not great layout on several pages. The mode selections with two huge splashes are clunky and in between after battle pages are not well done. The layout presentation on selecting battles, store, and modes could have been done in figurine choices instead of badly contrasted pages. Con for me. OVERALL Despite some developer presentation and execution cons. If you like turn base, tabletop games, tactical games then you may enjoy To Battle-hell Crusade. Is it a great game? Could be. I understand the hard work and effort that goes into any game and your only as good as the developers who dream them up. As a board game, it leaves it opens to additional factions, storylines, and tactics. A nice effort by Filthy Peasant Games and not overpriced for a PC boardgame. See the Video section above discussion to see if the game play is for you before buying. May wait for a nice sale. If you like Battle Brothers, Demon’s Rise, and Warband Bushido, then To Battle: Hell's Crusade maybe for you. My Score 2.5 out of 5
If Monty Python made a board game it would probably look like this. So quitteth thy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ and goeth and buy it already ye filthy peasants!
'No ♥♥♥♥' jokes in 2019? Really?
Despite quite a nice looking aesthetic and an interesting art-style that suits the medieval atmosphere, I couldn't really get on board with this one. I guess I was kind of hoping for a turn-based version of Wartile but the low production value of this game really does harm it. From the cheap looking title-page and the atrocious voice-acting; to the weak combat animations and lacklustre sound quality, there is just not enough here to make me want to continue with the campaign. Add the fact that the figures kind of get lost in the landscape and this is a definite thumbs down. Finally, for a game with such low system requirements why does it heat my PC up like an oven?
Not a big fan. You will lose units. You have to train them up and do objectives in a certain turn limit. I've never been a fan of games that downgrade your rewards, based on turn limits. Which means...the worst players, stay bad and the good players, get awesome. Resources are hard to come by and you have a choice of using them to rest and heal your wounded, constantly or try to save them, for purchasing new units, between scenarios. Obviously, there is a balance, between those two alternatives, but it means your units will frequently not be at 100%. Even if you are going to overall route an enemy, the AI is good at focus firing one unit and killing it. Killing one unit will take probably half of your resources, to replace, in the between game muster. Add to that, the unit likely had several level ups, that the new unit didn't have. So, your army is now weaker, but going to face tougher foes. I don't find this game all that fun. I can't recommend it.
40/100 very annoying combat Storytelling is nice and good Atmosphere.. but everything else from menue to combat to map is crappy Looks very much like a fast-produced mobile app ->>> avoid it.. unless you want a subpar turn-based hexgame (price is far too high for what it is..!!)
This is a good TBS tactics and level-up game. Looks like you can command a decent squad of maybe 20 men at some point. After the second level I was allowed 12 men but only had room to deploy 11 men again Lord Turnacoat. I guess this is a bug. Nevertheless, anyone having trouble can simply use CheatEngine to increase their recruitment points. At the current sale of $7.50, I would say a must-buy. Full price I might hesitate if money is any object.
the games to hard and the saves is what really sucks yu cant save during play so you ll be a hour into your game map and you have to start pver becauce you do one bad morve and one of your best men gets killed so you have to strat over again really sucks about the gamfererersdfsdfsdfwsfwerwerwerwer
