Fallout 2 on Titan
Pros - Can be mostly played with the mouse, there is one section of the game where you are driving in 3rd person and WASD is required. - Fairly engaging game-play, some base building. some researching, some crafting, some driving around exploring and some talking to characters etc It plays a bit like a point and click adventure game at times and a idle management type thing at other times and very occasionally the RPG vibe comes through. - Multiple endings if that's your thing. - Very slow paced. Cons - While there are multiple endings, arguably the better endings require you have a high or maxed out hacking skill. You can only really max out a couple of skills in a single play through so if you don't focus on hacking then it can be disappointing. Maybe I'm just missing something but seems like a flaw in the game design. - Very slow paced. Overall recommended if your into hard scifi themes and want something that is super chill.
A very intriguing game that pulls you in with its well thought through gameplay, systems and story. It may take 10-20 mins to get used to the way its played, but it is captivating nonetheless, and well worth a look for its price tag. It rewards thought, and is a lot of fun when played almost as a role playing game. It took me about 20 mins of real world gameplay to freeze to death, but thats through getting used to gameplay mechanics. Once you know what youre doing, its pretty straightforward, although i havent progressed very far into it though. Oh yes, I almost forgot, the main screen has the mother of all earworm soundtracks ;) 100% recommend and nice work dev!
9/10 game. Excellent story, varied gameplay, solid roleplaying, decent graphics, great music, proper science fiction. Don't think I've ever played anything quite like it. I got a little blindsided following the lakes questline after it got stale, but was glad to see the game has a lot more to offer than that. At first it seemed like that was the main quest or something, but it's not. Encountered 1 minor bug in my first playthru that was promptly fixed. Wish every dev was like that. Clearly a work of passion.
great game wish there was more of it
Wow this is a cool concept. I don't really know how to describe it. It's an RPG but in a hard sci-fi setting, so you're not shooting laser guns, you're repairing a broken mining outpost so that you don't die of exposure, but also investigating a deeper conspiracy in the off hours (literal off-hours, time is tracked down to the second). It's the kind of game where I'm playing it once and already thinking about my next playthrough (My first guy is all practical operational skills, but I absolutely am going to have to try out a charisma build later on just to get a new perspective on the NPCs).
This is a very unique and interesting game. If you're looking for an engaging hard science fiction story with a unique blend of rpg and management/sim type of elements, then go for it. I also applaud that this was done by a single person developer. There's a lot in here to enjoy.
I don't say OT is a terrible game, because how would I know after three hours? But what I do have a serious beef with is the fact that it is not the game I thought I was buying. I thought, OT is a base builder buffed by a story. There is a dev interview on youtube, which supports this impression of Steam's store page. The interview said explicitly, that there is no combat in this game. The few "gameplay" clips (in lack of a review) on youtube support the base building focus even more. Everything I could find (including all Steam reviews) is saying, that it's a neat game, in which you're alone on Titan and have to survive somehow - and this "somehow" is made more difficult, because one has to figure out virtually every procedure the hard way without help. I am not afraid of this. I wouldn't play something like this all the time, but there's nothing wrong with a change of pace. So, I bought it. Imagine my surprise, when I earned the achievement "The Real Danger - Die by human hands" within 3 hours of gameplay. Turns out, environmental survival and therewith the entire base building aspect is nothing more and nothing less than what stands between you and a solution to The Real Danger. It is true, that there is no combat. One is actually doomed to work on bloody plumbing instead of getting the chance to throw everything but the kitchen's sink at the real problem. This game feels like a stint in a gulag, complete with a pickaxe. And don't get me wrong. There is nothing wrong with a pickaxe. Just don't try to sell me the hogwash, that what I can possibly accomplish with a pickaxe is making a difference for anyone but myself. If the story would be just background, one could ignore it. But it is not. This is an adventure game. It is the base building, which is mere background. If I would have known this up front, I might even have liked this game. Who knows?
Can't recommend. Too many bugs, oversights, quest issues and vague objectives.
A compelling game by a solo developer. Despite encountering a few hiccups and bugs, I was able to complete the game on my terms and see several of the possible endings. The developer actively responds to bug reports, which is fantastic. The story is well written and explores an interesting web of technological, ecological and socio-political issues. It does harken back to the golden age of sci-fi at times, but was more reminiscent of Stephen Baxter's "Titan" rather than Heinlein or Asimov. If you want to support independent development, or just experience a narrative that is absolutely not cookie-cutter or formulaic, I can't recommend this game more highly. It was very fun. I enjoyed learning the mechanics of the interface as much as learning the history and politics of this solar system. It also helps to explore the discussions if you encounter an issue as it's probably already been addressed. I can't wait to see what comes next!
