About
Tiny Thor features 16-bit graphics and gameplay centered around using Mjölnir, leading our Norse hero through challenging levels filled with all kinds of obstacles. It offers tight controls, fast-paced action and an experience tinged with nostalgia.
Mjölnir, Tool of the Gods
“It’s your birthday Thor! Now take Mjölnir, the hammer that never misses its target!” —Odin
Everything has been carefully designed around this premise. The hammer can be freely aimed and bounces off surfaces and enemies, enabling all kinds of trick shots.

I wanted to like this as I enjoy a good 2d platformer that's challenging, and even the game itself tells you it's designed this way. But a lot of the level design feels frustrating instead of challenging. Spikes are everywhere and hard to see at first. Then having to get used to shooting boxes across an area, to bouncy boxes over spikes, and a lot of time jumping to death because the camera doesn't show enough of the play area. I like the pixel art. I like the soundtrack. Character controls good. But this is way too frustrating for me. Made it to level 7 and I'm done. The assists are a nice addition but unfortunately they don't offer anything that gives a few extra hit points besides God mode.
This is really really good, honestly even better than I expected. Almost regret buying it at a cheap price as it's truly worth the 20$. The game plays a lot with physics to create varied puzzles using Thor's hammer, bouncing jellos, corners to change projectile angles, etc... The pixel art is fantastic and sountrack is by the legendary Chris Huelsbeck. The game is also quite a lot bigger than I expected, there's a lot of optional levels that are much harder than the main path, bunch of secrets to get gems that allow to unlock upgrades in shops... The story is simple but is paced well and helped by wonderful sprites animations.
Has the look and does some things right, but has too many problems to recommend. The game looks good, is pretty long with a lot of levels, and has mostly good boss fights, as well as inventive use of hammer throwing. Then theres the issues. The hitboxes can be wonky. The platforming is wayyyyyyyy too finicky and unpolished to require what they ask. The wall jump is top 3 worst ive ever seen. Sometimes you get stuck on corner end of wall and can't jump, you can't do jumps up the wall only off. If you press jump on the wall it does nothing, you have to pull stuck away from the wall at the same time, and when jumping between things you have to keep pulling it opposite way, which is annoying but when you then need to wall jump and dash AND throw the hammer its just too poorly designed. Wall jumps don't reset jumps or dodges which is a massive mistake, but slams do.......WTF? The dash and jump mechanics make no sense. If you dash first you can jump then dash then jump again, giving you two dashes, but if you jump dash, jump you don't get a second dash for no reason?! Half the time in the heat of things you don't know if you have another jump or another dash and this leads to dying. Other issues are the health system. You get this heart that when you are hurt goes flying away and tries to purposefully run away for some dumb reason. Its annoying but its made doubly so because later levels have all spikes or you have to do things with trial and error 1 chance opportunities, meaning you don't even get a chance to try and get it, so turning on the heartstrings assist is required. This is because when you die you DON'T get the heart back from checkpoint, even if you saved WITH ONE?! This means you're punished for dying in a game that is going to kill you all the time. The throwing the hammer can be fun but when the game combines it will wall jumps and dashes its too finnicky and you won't throw it in the way you want. The game is all about trial and error. The checkpoints don't help, as they are too far apart, with multiple instant death rooms / rooms with single try momentum based movements in a row, meaning when you die further on you need to repeat all the stuff you just beat. The game loves to waste your time. Even when watching walkthroughs on how to beat certain parts there would be tons of retries of all parts just to get back to the part they want to beat. All the upgrades are pretty lame, just longer i-frames from damage and more time on the bouncing heart, nothing that really changed gameplay or I was excited for. The final boss is horribly designed, with instant death pits, two forms, the 2nd that takes 3-5 minutes just to get to forcing you to replay the 1st one over and over, and a horrible bounce timed mechanic thats blocked by the ledge you're standing on as well as the lava, which means you basically have to get hurt just to try and do it. I somehow glitched through him multiple times and ended on other side which you're not supposed to and it led to a much harder time with fail state. All the game assists seem designed to offset the poorly designed system. The heartstrings are for how poorly implemented the heart is with all the spike levels and not being replenished by checkpoint, the sticky wall jumps are to try and help the awful wall jumps, the higher jump is to help with some of the poor momentum based trial and error parts as well as the wall jumps, the invincibility is to be able to cheese the parts you already beat when forced to replay multiple parts you already beat just to try one part again. The game isn't terrible but for how difficult it is it should have better mechanics and game design. 6/10.
One of the most polished 2D platformers you can own on Steam. Starts breezy but gets incredibly difficult as you go, with some optional challenge levels that'll really put hair in places it shouldn't be. As of this writing, only 7% of players have beaten the final boss, so make sure you know what you're getting into.
At first I thought the game was alright. The more I played the more frustrated I got. This game is close to being pretty good but falls short. I like hard platformers, Super Meat Boy, Silksong, Celeste. Those feel good to play. This game feels off to me. Something just isn’t right with the controls and movement. The wall jump seems weird. I really don’t like the bosses. Some are okay and others are a chore. You can only get hit two times. You have a heart that bounces around for a few seconds and you can get it for another hit. Good luck getting it in a boss with the way it bounces. The good part about this game are the puzzles. If the game focused a lot more on the puzzle side and less on platforming and fights I think the game would be a lot better. I want to like the game but it just doesn’t feel good to play. There is a good bit of waiting for moving platforms or water cycles that really slows the game down. The last 7-8 levels really suck. They are so stupid long. At least the music is pretty good.
Tiny Thor is a spectacular precision platformer that starts off pretty slow and easy, just to punch you [strike]Asylum[/strike] SQUARE in the face. The story starts, and it's Thor's birthday, a party is being prepped, but Thor gets bamboozled (you can imagine by whom), and now he has to save the world from Ragnarök. A simple premise that stays simple throughout the whole game, but the story is not why you're here. You're here for the gameplay, and Tiny Thor is one of the best indie platformers I have ever played. Fluid, fast, creative, and intense gameplay steals the show. Mjölnir is his birthday gift, so you already know it will be fun. Mjölnir has free aim when using it, so you can break stuff, collect gems, solve puzzles, and kill enemies with it. The game has several mechanics sprinkled here and there, so the game never feels boring or annoying. Thor also has several new upgrades to get through the experience that will make the whole thing feel even more polished and intense. The puzzles are very creative too, using enemies and physics objects that fit well with the theme of the levels. They use the screen borders as a mechanic for some of Mjölnir's puzzles, and it was very fresh to see stuff like that in a platformer. The game also has a few bosses, and it's ok. Nothing grandiose, just decent. The art direction is phenomenal. Colorful lush villages, dark frozen caves, and even a giant honeycomb are brought to life with ultra-high-quality pixel art. A lot of love was put into the animations too, I will forever cherish the little wind that appears when Thor jumps. The CRT filters are among the best I've ever seen, it is possible to tweak them exactly to your liking, and I was very pleased with the result I managed to get. The soundtrack is also pretty awesome and fits perfectly with the levels. While it is original and high quality, I was pretty surprised when seeing a "cover" version of Flight of the Bumblebee in the Queen's Quarter level hehehe. As for the difficulty, it's a hard game, even harder if you want 100% completion. The optional levels will really test your proficiency with the skills acquired throughout the game. Level IX in particular was pretty insane to learn, but also very cool to beat. If the game is too difficult, there are a lot of assist options that can be turned on in the main menu. I don't know if it turns off achievements or not, but not bad to have these in place. Acessibility is always awesome. In the end, I was not surprised at all. Everything pointed to Tiny Thor being excellent, and that is precisely what it is, excellent. I played most of Hammer Kid too, and the evolution is evident. I can't even imagine what this studio is cooking at the moment, but I will keep an open eye for it. 🎼 Mighty Thor grips the snake. Firmly by its tongue. Lifts his hammer high to strike. Soon his work is done. Vingtor sends the giant snake. Bleeding to the depth. Twilight of the thundergod. Ragnarök awaits. 🎼
Pretty good and good looking 2d platformer overall! I believe the difficulty was alright without assist mode, and the platforming overall pretty fun, although the challenge levels are a different kind of beast compared to the main game (I have my complains about challenge 7 mushroom wall...) I wish we had the upgrade as soon as starting the game rather than unlocking them through the story but it's not really a problem. The bosses were very fun to do, not too hard, not too easy either, very well balanced. Going through 100% was a little bit annoying at times since you need to find every gems and crystals for it, there is one particular level were 1 single crystal is hidden, I didn't personally like that since I went through the level many time to find it (and in the end couldn't, had to look it up, skill issue) Overall, great game! not perfect for sure, can be frustrating at times, but I didn't have issue completing it, and if you struggle to do it, there is always assist mode to help you which is cool!
