This game has so much potential which is why I get so frustrated with it at times. Certain stages send ridiculously powerful units at you in the first few rounds while simultaneously starting you with barely any gold to buy units and you have no choice but to buy items to beat the stage. You shouldn't have to buy consumables in a tower defense game unless you're just bad, but it's an absolute requirement on certain stages. The concept of having these little units that spawn from barracks instead of towers is a neat concept and this game could be perfect if there was just a little more attention paid to the actual playability of the game.

great game from my childhood and still one of hardest tower defense game ever because nearly everything is hard

I cannot recommend this, mainly due to difficulty being all over the place. When you hit the biggest difficulty spike somewhere halfway through the game, you can't progress until you grind out more passives and/or hero levels. You can modify your save file to bypass the grind, but that obviously shouldn't be required and the fact that I was tempted to is a sign of bad game design.
