I can see why this game would be very enjoyable but it felt like it couldn't decide what it wants to be - a pure puzzle game or a narrative driven, "deep" experience. I guess it kinda shows that first they made the puzzles and then they brought the story. By no means it's a bad game, just not for me.
Lot's of chi chi, bla bla and religious mysterious show The core game play is solving puzzles and 90 % of them are straight up nonsense. They are so easy, I wouldn't go so far to even call them a puzzle. Lot's of walking around and doing nothing. Exploring was fun 15-30 mins but there isn't much. Sure u can say - oh hey, we've got 3 worlds + a 10 doors a 6-7 puzzles to solve. WOWSER Yes, but if 90 % are solved in 30 seconds then it is "quantity instead of quality" Not sure if I can bring myself to finish the game. It's tedious and boring at this point
Deep and engrossing.
The Talos principle is one of my favorite game, period. It was a long ride as It took me years to complete it, but I enjoy every minute of it. First the lore is so well made and intriguing, I was so drown to it from the start, that simulated journey with a lot of philosophical réflexion felt like an essay in disguise, without being pushy or boring. Which is a masterclass when you touch some deep subject with a lot analyze on humanity and art. Second, the puzzle part are impressively refine, with a difficulty curve almost perfect. You just evolve in a very thought environment with new tools discovered along the way. It doesn't mean the game is not hard, it's a pretty challenging puzzle game, with a lot of detail, secret and easter egg. But it never feel like impossible to resolve, and most important, it never feel like the game is lacking on some part or is badly made for you to go forth. That's how refine the game is. And I'm really amaze by it. A lot of time in that type of game, while a good concept can create some really great gameplay time, going forward ingame can push the concept to is limit, feeling like the good idea don't last, and loosing that refine aura the game had (I'm thinking of stuff like manifold garden or View finder). Here it never happen. Each puzzle is great from start to finish and it feels like you could go on forever after that. Which again is impressive. Finally the story is very powerful, without giving out much but doing it with a lot of care and emotion. Some moment even made me tear up a little, with how personal they got, talking to our humanity as a concept. I'm super biased on this one cause I genuinely enjoy every part. And with 54hours of gameplay I finished it in his entirety (will all ending). Yes talos principle is particular, with a slow pacing, some hard puzzle and a that "philosophical sandbox" mindset. But the result is a masterpiece, with highly calibrated gameplay and impressive lore and meaning. For me it's a game to have played in your life. It's for everyone on an humanity core level. Please, do yourself a favour and play it. If you liked this review, please visit my curation page : https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45496254-Erratic-Curation/
