Because what the game definitely needed was a bunch of ugly, exclusive, immersive breaking customization and not anything that actually fits the world. Just blatant virtue signaling.
Another studio has fallen victim to the prescribed modern mind melt. If you are looking for a pure story, keep looking. Wish I had known before I bought it.
The atmosphere is impeccable and the premise is interesting. (What if S.T.A.L.K.E.R., but car?) Unfortunately the game mechanics are lifted from the most tedious kind of Minecraft mod: "What if everything took fifty ingredients and a half-dozen steps to craft?" The interface also feels really awkward, with a lot of "hold down the button" interactions that make it take longer than it should to perform those half-dozen steps. Overall, I respect the idea, but it's not for me.
Cool universe and concept but I cant play a game with weird woke stuff in it. I cannot in good conscience play and support this game. It simple goes against who I am as a man.
This game has a major... leak... or crack that either saves this game from being a nothing burger, or turns it into one, let me explain. Picture this, your 12 years old, your shutting off all the lights in your house and now its just the hallway lightswitch, and at the end of this hallway is your room. you flick off the lightswitch and instantly get the sensation something is RIGHT BEHIND YOU and you need to run. So you run all the way back to your room and never actually look to see if something is behind you and close the door. Now its the next night, and you have to do it again, but this time you face your fears. You flick the switch turn around and, nothing. just darkness. Like the badass you are you calmly walk back to your room and close the door. This is what playing pacific drive feels like. The atmosphere at every single point gives you that feeling of unease and being watching, like every darkness and corner is concealing something, every crack of a branch or rustle of leaves is a potential threat waiting to bite you. But the crux of the issue is this: theres never anything there. Theres no monster, no stalker, nothing. The few anomaly's that do exist make some pretty unsettling sounds but thats about it. Sometimes this game overwhelms me to the point of having to take a break because im just so tense with anticipation and theres never anything to relieve that feeling, never any moment of "i have a reason to be afraid". And yet, this might just be what keeps this game special. The atmosphere is just incredible, it makes me look over my back every few minutes its just that good. Because of this feeling im both hooked, wanting to know if maybe, just maybe there really is something out there, but im also frustrated because i know theres never gonna be anything. Im terrified thinking theres something right behind me, but instead of being relieved that there isnt, i just end up being disappointed. Its a strange feeling to both want and not want something to be hunting me lolll. for me? 8/10 game. For general audiences? 5.5/10
This Game blasphemes The Father , The Son , AND THE HOLY SPIRIT. JESUS SPOKE SAYING THAT BLASPHEMY AGAINST THE HOLY SPIRIT IS THE ONLY UNFORGIVABLE SIN. Do with that information what you will.
I could harp on about the resource gathering being a boring chore and the tech tree offering nothing of substance but Pacific Drive has a much bigger problem at its core. The game is hollow in a real tangible sense. The promise of a dangerous trek through an anomalous zone falls flat on its face when you realize that pretty much every anomaly is just an inconvenience that you can easily swerve around 9 times out of 10. Every time you step out the car the game will attempt to prop up an illusion of peril by having you venture into complete darkness while spamming ''spoooooky'' sound cues every two seconds. Of course, this illusion is shattered the moment you realize that NOTHING can harm you in this game, not in meaningful matter at least. Even when a hazard is, you know, hazardous for a change, it is downright insulting how forgiving things can get. No matter how grave a f*ck up, I would always just drive off without issue. So what if every part of my car is at zero percent? Not a big deal apparently. A waste of time, I'm afraid.
Don't
Finally playing an addicting game after a long time. The Lonely World feels so weirdly cozy.
