The Surge

This game relies heavily on all of the enemies and bosses being able to one shot you. Without that massive handicap the game becomes much easier. The game just seems difficult because someone ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up all of the numbers behind the scenes. I feel like this would be a much better game if they didn't try to shoehorn difficulty like this. A game isn't hard if things are able to one shot you no matter what level you are. That's just a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ developer. I'm not sure if I can recommend this game or not. I want to say no because of the illusion of difficulty though.

Only use Twin-rigged Weapons. I repeat only use twin rigged as they are the only weapons that allow you to move as fast as the enemies. I attempted to play this game four times before it finally clicked (stopped getting dunked on). The only way it clicked was by using twin rigged weapons. Every previous attempt ended with me bouncing off it because I was too slow with the medium speed weapons and was just standing there as some low level enemy would just 2 shot me,. The ability to target specific limbs is a fantastic mechanic, and I love the way the sci-fi world is realized. The enemy animations are inconsistent - some encounters are genuinely enjoyable, while others are an absolute chore. I have a real love/hate relationship with this game, yet I still ended up sinking 72 hours into it. I just don't have it in me to grind out the final four achievements. A beautiful, frustrating game.

Enemies aren't super fun to fight. The limb targeting mechanic, while cool, doesn't feel utilized to it's fullest and I feel shouldn't even be a thing as it is currently, and the zones are just godawful mazes. It's way too easy to get lost and there's just way too many paths too go down, so many that if you die you're probably not going to find where your scraps are. Subbosses, and bosses kinda suck.

The combat takes some time getting used to, and some of the enemies can be frustrating at times, but overall the game is good. I enjoyed my time with it.
