Another change to EULA and complete overwrite of the game I purchased almost a decade ago. EULA states No longer "own" the game and it can be taken away any time.
One of the best, if not THE very best Warhammer 40K games ever developed.
One of the best RTS games. Small text on 2K/4K monitors can be fixed by setting in game resolution to 1280x960 (4:3 aspect ratio) and upscaling it to 2K/4K using FSR.
Space Marine go whoosh pow, Ork head go boom, good game
The origianl and best OG in the dawn of war RTS franchise.
Ahora soy xenófobo ¡¡¡¡¡¡FOR THE EMPEROR!!!!!! 10/10.
Ok, i will enjoy this as a wargamer (Warhammer miniature player/painter). Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War is still one of the best RTS games ever made—and the Anniversary Edition is the perfect excuse to return to it. If you enjoy classic real-time strategy games and love the Warhammer 40,000 universe, this is an easy recommendation. Like for real. It has everything that made old-school RTS games so addictive: base building, resource management, and large-scale battles (with brutal animations). At the same time, it feels more approachable than games like StarCraft, allowing you to focus more on commanding your army than on exhausting micromanagement. One of the game’s defining mechanics is map control. Capturing and holding strategic points is essential because they generate the resources needed to build your forces. If you don’t fight for territory, you’re simply not going to survive. This creates an aggressive pace where battles start early and rarely stop. A truly Warhammer playstyle. What I loved: * More casual-friendly than many classic RTS games. I spent far more time thinking about battlefield tactics than perfecting every single unit’s micro. * The atmosphere is incredible. Massive firefights, iconic factions, and constant explosions make this feel like Warhammer 40,000 brought to life. * Excellent soundtrack and voice acting. Even after all these years, the audio does an amazing job of selling the scale and brutality of the universe. * The modding community is still alive. Huge thanks to everyone keeping this game alive—especially the Apocalypse Mod, which is an absolute blast. Things to keep in mind * This is still a game from the early 2000s. Some technical limitations and aging mechanics are impossible to ignore. * Be careful once you start installing gameplay mods that expand unit limits or improve the experience. They raise the bar so much that it’s surprisingly difficult to go back to the vanilla game. Final thoughts Dawn of War isn’t just a nostalgic classic—it remains one of the most enjoyable RTS games you can play today (especialy for wargaming players). If you’ve ever wanted to command Space Marines, Orks, Eldar, or Chaos in brutal, large-scale battles without the overwhelming pace of more hardcore competitive RTS titles, this is still one of the best places to start. Even after all these years, it captures the spirit of Warhammer 40,000 better than many newer games. Besides Dawn of War is very often in sales. Wish it. Buy it. Enjoy it.
Peak RTS. I've been playing in 4:3 and have zero problems. The controls are a little clunky but you get used to them. I feel normal mode is a little easy but it still feels fun as the campaigns are usually one big tutorial. I love it. One of the best RTS games ever made for sure.
Other than Warhammer fantasy roll play and the tabletop Space Hulk (I'm older), DOW was my introduction to Warhammer 40k (I moved my cd keys to steam years ago) and it is still my gold standard for RTS and Warhammer 40k games. Fun, interesting and well written.
One of my favorite Warhammer games and perhaps the best from the Dawn of War series. It just works and feels good to play.
