The Surge leaves a positive yet somewhat mixed impression. It balances frustrating design flaws with exceptionally rewarding core gameplay mechanics. The game offers a rather banal story. It revolves around a typical sci-fi cliche of a mega-corporation that tried to solve global crises but ended up triggering a massive catastrophe instead. When it comes to the bosses, the game suffers from a clear lack of variety and quantity. Most of these bosses have a very simple and predictable set of attacks. Furthermore, difficulty is often achieved through artificially overtuned damage rather than complex mechanics, where just one or two hits can instantly kill your character. Sci-fi world of the CREO complex is genuinely atmospheric, but its Metroidvania elements are implemented mediocrely. Backtracking through the areas is rarely rewarded with valuable loot. Instead of multiple checkpoints, each massive zone features a complex, interconnected industrial maze built around a single central hub. Progression relies entirely on exploring tight, vertical, and claustrophobic maintenance shafts to unlock shortcuts that loop back to safety. This layout heavily rewards spatial memory, especially since the game completely lacks an in-game map or navigation markers. Combat system is the major highlight, being both strong and highly original. It features a dynamic pace, excellent stamina management, a noticeable difference between weapon classes, and a successful equipment upgrade system. Beyond stamina, combat revolves around an active energy gauge used to power drone abilities or execute tactical finishers. The standout mechanic allows targeting specific enemy body parts, with the limb-severing system being directly tied to character progression and gear farming. Traditional RPG stat leveling is entirely replaced by a modular implant system, allowing you to completely alter your build at any time. Ultimately, despite noticeable flaws in the plot, bosses, and world exploration, the quality combat system largely compensates for these problems and makes The Surge well worth playing (☞゚ヮ゚)☞

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 23 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 14 places towards #1, and the 2,420 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

Way harder than Mortal Shell!
I really don't know why this game has mixed recent reviews. I think this game does some things better and some worse than the well-known Dark Souls. This one, having come out in 2017, I think has aged well... so I finally think it's worth giving it a try, but I wish it had more bosses, I think there are like 6-8 bosses... there should be a few more...
It's ok.
Recomendo.
