Unnecessary
Looks good, works generally well (optimization is great), but it's a slow repetitive souls-like mecha game. So boring, so poorly written, so unentertaining. And the hitboxes are often mile away from you, so dodging is purely random. It's not bad, it's just bland.
This is already too slow under normal conditions, but every now and then, they think it's a good idea to force you into a narrow vent, and then put enemies in it, killing the pacing completely. These vents are so sloppy it feels like the level designer messed up so they added these random vents to make certain rooms connect, they even have elevators in them, most of the time for no reason, just to bore you. Balance doesn't exist, the first enemy you see outside the tutorial, who's copy pasted everywhere in the first area, can kill you in 2 hits. I get why they did it, it's partially trying to be a horror game, but the way they try to achieve this is so obnoxious. They just hide enemies behind corners, and give them a 2-hit combo where the first hit stuns you and the second kills you. Upgrading your character sucks. Everything costs points and slots, but there are no tiny incremental upgrades, so it's all or nothing. Might as well put everything into health due to how everyone and everything stunlocks you to death. The best armor in the game drops in the tutorial, and all it really does is increase your attack rate slightly, due to how every single animation for every single weapon is just too slow otherwise. Backtracking, which sometimes is mandatory, is a huge pain. Good luck remembering how to get to each area from the hub, when every level, including the hub, is just more gray corridors. Bosses are horrible. Genuinely miserable. For the most part it's just trying to copy Dark Souls, including the worst things about it, while the good things (atmosphere, ranged builds, tons of items and loot, enemy variety) aren't really being copied fully, or at all. CREO World DLC is the best part of the game but it's short. Thankfully Surge 2 feels like a bigger version of it. So just play Surge 2, by far the better game, especially when you can allocate points and there isn't a single vent, thank god.

For scale, across Steam · Top Sellers · Brazil over the last 30 days: the 25 chart moves that followed a price cut of more than 20% went a median of 10 places towards #1, and the 2,413 moves with no price cut behind them went 2 away. One store, one chart, one country — it is the only place we have enough observations to say even that.
Prices outside the United States have been collected since 6 August 2026 and chart positions since 19 July 2026, so a cut older than that has no market to compare and a market that joined later has no history yet. Nothing here is converted between currencies.

the first boss will touch your special place, but after you beat it the rest of the game is great. if you want a game where you can get anything you see someone wearing/using this is it
Nope. Just nope. Terrible controls. You dodge in one direction and the character dodges in another. And don’t even get me started on the character randomly freezing in place despite having full stamina. Is it fear, or does he just really love the enemies’ equipment so much that he stops to admire it? I honestly don’t know. I’ll still finish the game. I’m not giving up! But I’m never giving 'The Surge' a positive review until they fix these clunky controls.
Great Game, Loved the gameplay and futuristic theme and was really fun to play :3
I stopped playing this game because it was frustrating rather than challenging. The game mechanics are unique, as enemies can be attacked on each body part and you can loot armor from each body part. The downside of this game is the clunky parry and dodge mechanics. Furthermore, the vast map actually feels confusing rather than sparking curiosity to explore further. I’ve played "Blasphemous", which also features a vast map that players must unlock through exploration, but at least that game was still fun. In "The Surge", however, that aspect turns into frustration instead of curiosity. My personal rating: 6/10
Combat is challenging yet rewarding, encouraging players to study enemy attacks and make thoughtful use of the game's mechanics.
