this is such an underrated gem that i would put in the category of similar vibes to edith finch in regards to gameplay/style, i dont replay story games like this often but ive played this like 5 times now and theres something so appealing about the characters you dont even see and the story slowly unfolding. sometimes short story games are the best. mixed reviews dont know ball
I thought the reviews complaining about the quantity and quality of the voiceovers must be exaggerating. They were not. Holy crap it's endless.
Interesting story told with nice graphics and great voice acting - definitely worth a playthrough if you're into these kinda games, like myself.
I’m disappointed with this game. First, I encountered a recurring bug where the game would get stuck on a black screen whenever a new in-game day was supposed to begin. The story wouldn’t progress, and the only way to continue was to close and restart the game. For example, Day 2 failed to start entirely until I relaunched the game. The same issue happened on several other days as well. The final straw was when this bug occurred during the climax of the story (the sink scene). After bringing the required item to the sink and interacting with it, the game immediately went to a black screen and never continued. When I restarted the game, it loaded me back at the beginning of the day, standing in front of the doors. That meant I would have had to replay the entire sequence all over again. At that point, I lost my patience, closed the game, and uninstalled it. Having the game break right before the ending is incredibly frustrating and unacceptable. P.S. I ended up watching the ending on YouTube. In my personal opinion, the ending felt rushed and underdeveloped. Overall, I was left feeling disappointed and regretful about the time I invested in this game.
Conditional recommendation. A walking sim with some heavy topics and a mystery/supernatural angle. I've been putting this game off for a while because I've seen many negative reviews saying that it endorses suicide and pedophilia but after playing the game my impression was that it decidedly does not endorse any of these, it just tries to show some of the seemingly innocent conditions and devastating, family-destroying, life-wrecking consequences. Pros: the atmosphere is great. Gameplay is essentially exploring a large building and there are dozens of interaction points with the environment. It is just a bit spooky as there are creaks and noises but generally fun. I'd wager that if this specific cocktail of genres works for someone, they will love this game. Cons: I felt that the sweet spot was missed in what proportion the different components were mixed. The game could have easily been a completely non-supernatural story or one that completely avoids the theme of suicide. I just felt that the team wanted to do something memorable that breaks boundaries and they broke one too many in the process.
It’s a dark story, yet I could see something beautiful in it all. It kept me on my toes the whole time, I loved finding all the hidden passages. An abandoned hotel, lots of hidden corridors, a death, and a snowstorm that leaves you trapped. I loved the game and can't wait for the sequel...
Very short but impactful indie game. Very sad;---suicide, grooming, pedophelia--- mind the tags, there's a dead dove in here. Great game design though, the map is very fun to walk around!
