2-hour (if that) linear walking sim, came out in 2015 ridiculously overpriced at 13 eur. looks nice and spooky for sure, has a few not too bad jumpscares. I ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ hate them and don't play 1st-person horror stuff but this was okay in that regard. zero puzzles or anything besides walking and examining a few things. unless you have a theme park fetish or some nostalgia for the first area in the secret world mmo (the only reason I grabbed it), there's no point in playing this. well, there's not much point regardless.
great story and good graphics! love games like this with a story that pulls me in.
This game is ass
I can see and appreciate that the creators of this game tried. They didn't phone it in. And yet, The Park is a bad game. The Park is a bare-bones horror walking simulator in the kindest of terms. The scares are hackneyed, hitting a very rare valley on the jump/scare graph that emerges as defiantly impotent. The Park is both well behind and right on top of the times, taking influence from popular games that preceded it while generally fumbling them mechanically. Two examples: the player character breathes heavily when something scary happens, even if it isn't very scary or you didn't even see the trigger; as well, the player is given the ability to call out for their child at any time, which isn't exactly novel, BUT it's functional as a pathfinding device and purposeful as a storytelling device. A few of failures, a few successes, but nothing special to be found. On a much more rudimentary gameplay note, (more of a ♥♥♥♥♥♥ note, if I'm being honest) the "sprint" and "exit" buttons don't always work--certainly not intuitively. Sometimes I inexplicably need to double tap the shift key to sprint, and sometimes I alternate between left mouse and space bar to exit a note/item. I still haven't figured out the sprint issue, but apparently the left mouse button will only exit a note if you haven't hit the right mouse button to "read" it, in which case you have to hit space THEN left mouse button. Jesus. On a more important note, I found the story painfully predictable, relying on the into to psychological horror textbook, dropping out before it can graduate to the 200's level storytelling courses. Without spoiling too much, this becomes excruciatingly obvious during a certain level that repeats itself a truly obscene number of times, teasing at puzzles that will never be and ramping up the pressure one teeny tiny helping at a time. The Park tells its story coherently, but follows too many familiar patterns and cliched beats to get there. I had this game on my list for a long time, and I tragically cannot recommend it.
the park is one of those games that proves you don't need endless jump scares to make people uncomfortable. It's short, but it builds a creepy atmosphere that sticks with you long after you finish. the abandoned amusement park feels unsettling from the first minute, and the sound design does a lot of the heavy lifting. the story is where the game really shines. it deals with grief, guilt, and mental health in a way that's more psychological than outright terrifying. the gameplay is pretty simple—mostly walking and exploring—so don't expect puzzles or action. my only complaint is that I paid for a theme park and somehow managed to ride exactly zero rides without emotional damage. if you're looking for a fast-paced horror game, this isn't it. But if you enjoy psychological horror with a strong atmosphere and a story that makes you think, it's definitely worth playing.
It's more of a drama about those families where everything went wrong. There are elements of horror, but they're not the main focus. Overall, it's a good game, and it's worth playing if you enjoy getting emotional satisfaction from the story rather than the success of your spinal cord.
I really wanted to give this game a fair chance after hearing a lot of negative things, but this was baaadddd... The amusement park itself is a handful of set pieces that you get to by slowly walking through unity asset hell as the main character monologues about how terrible her life is. Games like this is the reason why the phrase "Show don't tell" exists- as this kinda mundane story is told to us via multiple pages of text that you find across the game as notes strewn across the map, and by the protagonist talking at us for long stretches of time- thats without mentioning the nearly 8 minute swan ride where you cannot move or do anything except get talked at... but by a narrator this time. Without spoiling anything the final "area" of the game is a little better and (unbelievably) actually does a tiny bit of environmental storytelling?! I mean its not great and its a bit clique but its THERE. I'll take what I can get. I don't dislike walking sims I think when done well they can be really effective, but there is just nothing going on.. the main character is boring and her motives just baffle me. The random ass "boogey man" character is confusing and does nothing, and poster boy "chad the chipmunk" just kinda stands there and does NOTHING. This whole game is nothing, nothing but being talked at and reading text. Feels like customer service instead of a game.
Great game
the game is short you can complete it in an hour if you rush but you shouldnt the hidden pages and lore and scares are worth savouring you truly get to experince the park at your own pace and for fans of the secret world youll see some familar mentions to the lore highly recommend.
