It`s kind of hard to recommend this game because it`s not for everyone. Even to myself to be honest. Problem is that it does not feel like a lovecraftian mystery. It feels more like all the Sherlock Holmes games they made until this game. I don´t hate detective stories but i was expecting a lovecraftian mystery and thats the problem for me personally. Repetitive assignements, repetitive locations, repetitive enemies. The atmosphere and the city itself was quite good fortunately. Too bad they didn´t use it to their advantage. I really hope the second game is going to be awesome. This one 5/10.
obra prima, recomendo
Interesting story. Gameplay is okay. If you like a good story with some reading and horror then you will probably like this game.
This game is different from frogwares Different projects, for example the sherlock holmes detective series. Different title, same game mechanics. I am not complaining that it is some bad thing, but somethin refreshin from time to time would really help the game to prosper more. What makes it worse is the bugged transportation via the water/boat. Sometimes you just tame some piece of debris under your boat and it sllows your ship, which makes the forced travel by boat really annoyinng. In some parts of the game I had really been considering leaving the game unfinished. The quests are mostly the same, crime scene, retrocognition of the crime scene, and after finding the required clues, you just go on and continue in your story. What dissappointed me was the lack of diversity in the map, the buildings are often the same proportions and room placement is identical. So this is one thing I would advise Frogware to work on. The puzzles in this game were super easy and not really challenging, as it was in old sherlock holmes games, so this could also improve. What is worse, is that you dont really have much freedom in the story, you cant choose different approach to some quests or an option to do it chronologically differently. What I like about this game was the main character, Charles Reed, his background was rich and interesting, the prologue which doubled as a tutorial was also fine way to introduce it all to the player. I like d the different beasts you had to face, really love the style with which they were made. Creepy and uncanny. I also loved the vast options of conclusions you can make to také different story paths and also the newspapers informing you about your closed cases (punishment of the criminal or conclusion to the crime). To conclude, I dont recommend buying this game at a full price, but it is well worth your time with some sale. Gameplay: 4/5 -> sometimes buggy, with weird movements of the character. Environment: 3/5 -> The place in which the game takes part is great, but the map and building design is in my opinion tragic. Characters: 5/5 -> Great characters, liked the looks of fish people, throgmortons and KKK personel, along with cultists and gangsters. Replayability: 2/5 -> Can kinda imagine myself playing this game after some while, but not in a forseeable future. Final score: 14/20 = 3,5/5 – can recommend.
Ermagerd it should be illegal for games to have underwhelming endings. 😫 Overall wonderful game! Cool story! Gorgeous aesthetics! Fun detective work. Yuck combat until you finally get the SMG. The inventory management was not terrible. As far as Lovecraftian horror detective games go, The Sinking City is among the good ones. But the three endings all left me feeling like "oh". I loved the ideas of the endings! But you only get seconds of a cut scene and then roll credits. Very good game, but from my perspective the game didn't stick the landing so to speak. I would give this game 4 out of 5 stars.
This is a perfect mix between action RPG and also a detective game. Its capture the Call of Cthulhu lore right well. I was a little skeptical when the Sinking City, but the Remastered is really well made and worth playing if you are into eldritch horror. Pros: - Great graphics - Unique atmosphere - Good soundtrack - Well optimized Cons: - Few variety in enemies - Repetitive combat & mission - boring and useless DLC
good game
