Russell Stone is a Jewish Rabbi at a poor synagogue in New York City. He is a devout man with a problem. Membership is way down and he lacks the funds to keep his synagogue open. Things are looking very bleak, and he has grown progressively more cynical and bitter with the passage of time.

✡✡✡Shalom✡✡✡ An eye-opening experience for goyim. The chutzpah of Rabbi Amos Zelig and his pawn, JDM. Jack Lauder did not kill himself,
and neither did Jeffrey
. What would Rabbi Russel Stone say?

You call yourself a chosen one?
How can you face YHWH, knowing what you've done?
You really think YHWH will understand your actions?
This would have otherwise been an enjoyable point-and-click adventure, but I couldn't shake the bad taste in my mouth left from this strange narrative. The protagonist is a deeply conservative rabbi who demonstrably harmed members of his congregation due to his rigid and exclusionary views. I would've expected major character development, especially given the philosophical nature of this game. Nope! The bigoted rabbi ends the story even more entrenched in his decision to be a Zionist, exclusionary gatekeeper. Really disappointing and I can't recommend this game given that choice.
The Shivah: Kosher Edition is a small, rough-edged adventure game built around an unusual protagonist — a Jewish rabbi facing moral choices rather than heroic feats. The Kosher Edition improves the visuals and presentation while deliberately preserving the structure and roughness of the original. The mechanics are modest, and the storytelling can be corny at times, but this only adds to the game’s distinctive charm. A sincere indie experience that stands apart from mainstream adventure games.
Love Wadjet Eye Games normally but this game is short, has a very banal story with no surprises. Oddly ultra Orthodox narrative where the protgonist is a very conservative rabbi is kind of fun but without any twist it just feels like one of these strange Christian themed copies of Super Mario that would pop up once in a blue moon if you ever downloaded a huge pack of NES roms. But in this case it is your average point n click instead of Super Mario. Art is also extremely dull. It's strange to feel that the game would have been visually so much better of they just skipped color and just made it totally black and white like the logo.. It's cheap though.
big israel!
I wuz up shmutzin my shnitzel till Rabbi Stone came over and says, he says to me, ay be a good mensch n lemme take a little off the top. I says AYO! Oy Gevalt! and other such expletives. I says, now I’m no shmuck but i figures I need less length like I need a hole in the head. Rabbi comes to me, he says he needs it for his bar, he’s got this restaurant bar, been deep frying em and calling em calamari. I says again I says Oy vey, no way Yosef! Rabbi gives me a skweentish look and realizes I’m a Jew bout this point, couldn’t believe it, asks me for a dollar! I says Rabbi I’m broke! I’m Orem! First ya want my foreskin now you want my snakeskin wallet eh? I got this Alter Kocker asking me for everything in my front and back pockets! I says once more I says oy! I says you suck you shmuck, you wanted my shmuck tucked and now you wanna break my bucks? You’re fartuckt outta luck! Rabbi says gesundheit.
Alright but extremely short (most of my playtime was just waiting for the card drops). What feels like what was only going to be the end of Act 1 to a much grander mystery, ended up as the end of the game. Not the best from WadjetEye (honestly probably one of their weaker), but it is pretty much a polished "game jam" game originally and Dave Gilberts first commercial game. It's predictable and there are very little in regards to puzzles but it's not bad, so I can't really do a thumbs down. Pick it up at a sale. if you want some light detective game.
