It's quite bad. Short, bad movement, ugly graphics and somtimes still bad performance. Usually you just walk around in some forest where everything looks the same. And the story is bs.
Recommending this one tentatively. It succeeds in being scary for most of its brief length, so if that's what you're itching for I think it's worth your time. But the plot is frankly terrible. Feels like an R rated version of Scooby-Doo on Zombie Island. Silent Hill and Fatal Frame are the only games that get away with evil cults being the culprits, and only then because the cults themselves are so far into the background that they're practically out of sight for the majority of the games. The fake mythology slapped onto a real tradition is bizarre, too.
Short but nicely made walking horror sim, not the top of a story rather from a B Horror Movie but sure worth playing for an relaxing hour or two, the atmosphere is cool, all about a one nights play without romances but lotsa killing by cultists on a private island where the player either finds remnants or scary dead scenes, the gore level is high, dont close the lighthouse door in time and the best is yet to see... The NPC behavior is well made so the whole ambient part, last moment situations are well in collision limits so as the checkpoints are well placed, one does not lose too much when dying. Developers could have made more out of it or better more games like that. Ending the game is spladder pure so as an invitation to play Games like Skinwalker Hunt where the evolved main character can be found again. All in all a good shot, the second last Achievement, saving Megan in the Tunnels I could not earn but this is a well known bug, pity to miss all achievements what else is not a big thing to do.
I'd say it's worth the price and time. The developers seemed to care about their project, they made an effort to make it varied for the gamer, but not have it overstay it's welcome, and with loving nods to cheesy 70s & 80s horror & slasher films. Among all the lazy attempts at quick cash grabs, this stands out to me as a proper game: Thought out, realized and finished. Though it could use some polishing. Sure, I was frustrated at times as to where I was going or what I was doing, and I struggled with the button promts. It was a bit fiddly, but not once was I bored. I came across some bugs, none were game breaking though, rather they made me laugh, have a good time & enjoy the experience even more. Like a ride of sorts. You know the worst thing a game can be, apart from completely broken, is boring. And this has twists, turns, variety of enviroments, models, music, good sound effects & ambience, voice acting (though obviously lacking experience and/or good direction), and even surprisingly varied gameplay for such a small & short game! I hope the developers continue making games in the future, and learn from their experiences and the feedback from the community.
I know that Steam players are way too forgiving of horror games, but why the positive reviews? It's just bad. Some of the most terrible audio I've experienced, bad story, wooden animation, broken event triggers, kinda ugly, and not at all fun. The controller support they say they added doesn't actually work properly. If you use one, your character just shifts around when you're not hitting any buttons. Blech. Refunded.
Summary: A fun, first-person horror game that does not overstay its welcome. This game is about 1.5 hours long and, much like a typical horror movie, that seems about right. It is part exploration and part walking simulator. You get to explore areas but much of it is on a linear path. I enjoyed this and it kept the story moving. I saw a YouTube Let's Play of the first level when it was still in development (thanks Jim Sterling!) and patiently waited until the game was complete before buying. I am a fan of creepy horror movies (not just slashers) that build an atmosphere with sound and visuals and tell a tale. The atmosphere built nicely in this game and the forest sections had the hair on the back of my neck standing up a couple of times. This game cost me about $5 and I feel it was well worth the price of admission. I have certainly paid more for less with other games and other movies. If there was a follow up product I would get it and that means I would have to recommend it.
Game was bad when I bought it, and it's even worse now.
a satisfying experience provided by a professionally developed adventure game. Praise to the devs for embedding well thought out automated savepoints, hopefully this will be noticed by other houses that keep on failing us time and again on this point! Definitelly worth the download, play along the underworld series
