[UPDATE 2] There have been almost daily updates including the addition of an 'arcade' mode and some bug fixes. It's a one-man team developing this so it's a pretty decent effort and he's communicating with players on Discord so I tip my hat for his efforts and engagement. There are a lot of things that are placeholder or very basic in this game with the intent that the dev will expand on them in the future. It might have been better to release this as Early Access given the amount of work this game needs to get it to being worthy of your $15. Having said that if $15 isn't much to you and you want to support small VR devs with interesting ideas then by all means pick this up. However at this point I can only compare it to other titles at a similar price and this game currently falls fairly short in terms of value. I will happily update this review yet again should this change. [UPDATE] Patch is released and more content is available. Pleasantly the game remembered the mission I was on so after the patch I just took up where I left off. I have played 5 more missions but became motion sick (I only VERY rarely feel sick in my Rift) in a helicopter mission. Will try again soon and update my review. [Original review] Bought this as soon as it released as it looked promising. The devs have a note in the game stating that the full story wont release for another 24-48 hours due to the need for more performance tuning. I played what was available and it took about 15 minutes to finish the tutorial and current story content (maybe 6 quick missions?). I suggest that you wait until the full release is out and the game duration is confirmed before you pick this up. Not an attack on the devs, just that there's no mention of the truncated story and up-coming patch on the store page. Each mission is essentially a single kill, you have to find the right target after being given a clue by the narrator. No one appears to return fire, you either hit the right target with the one shot or you fail and retry. The shooting mechanic is pretty basic, graphical style is okay, animation is very primitive (car slides around un-naturally like it's on ice as it follows a path), voice acting is fine for this sort of thing. At this stage I can't recommend it for $15. So far I give it a 3/10 for the price but will update this when the full story is out and I've finished it.
Currently not finished, so the Story Mode will be delivered in the next 24-48 hours. The arcade mode is also not implemented and maybe in one week available. The story mode is done in some minutes and you have to look only for some specific people to shoot them, so you need more time to find the people - not really a story! The "action" part in a car is also not really realistic. The sliding of the car is too slow and feels like slow motion. The "action" part (shooting romero guys in a car, who follow you was strange because each window of the car was black (not transparent) and I finished it only with lucky shot.... Currently not recommended - will be updated if new content is available.
I don't know why this game has mostly negative. i enjoyed the game, it runs good. its simple, it could use better instructions and better scopes. Its hard to tell thru the scope some times. Is say its worth buying
Bad voiceacting... Inposibile to aim whit ironsights... Bad story... Not worth it.
Update: So it does appear the update has been released to unlock the rest of the levels of the game. Unfortunately I have since refunded the game and can not test what the rest of the game is like. In the future I may be willing to pick it up to give it a go again. First of all this game is pretty fun, it has the gun mechanics of Duck Hunt but the play style of hitman. The missions you do get to play is pretty easy, you have a voice the gives you hints and you have to find the right target, No one shoots back or no trick shots (Hit a target while walking past a window). The first thing you are greeted with is the main menu that has a message on the bottom of the screen saying "Arcade mode will be released on January 27th"" Ok not a big deal but wish this was mentioned on the product page before I purchased this. Once you select the Campaign you are greeted with a note saying that half the game is not ready and that it will be released within 24-48 hours. WTF, why release a game thats not ready? I understand you have already delayed the game but im sure another 48 hours wouldn't kill anyone. There is no notes on the product page at all letting customers know about this. I know if I would of known the game was only half completed I wouldn't of bought the game. We are now past the 48 hour mark and still have no update from the devs about this patch. I have a feeling this game is going to be refunded as we have heard no new news from the dev since launch.
Like a less serious HItman: Sniper Challenge
The Perfect Sniper is an imperfect game, but it's definitely an interesting idea. The graphics are nice, although there are some odd clipping-like issues with the scope that can lead to seemingly random blackness within the scope, and I wasn't able to get the sound working at all (if there is any? Is the perfect sniper in fact a deaf man?). The mechanics are simple, but work pretty well. I am going to continue to work on getting this to work fully and properly, in hopes I can actually work through the campaign. I can already tell there needs to be more randomness to the scenes though. If you miss your target the first time for any reason, you can simply hang out, wait for them to walk to the exact same spot, and then try your luck with the trigger again. Due to the sensitivity of the Vive, it's rather easy to miss a shot as you're pulling the trigger itself, which is interesting, as it invokes a need to carefully and smoothly pull the trigger, rather than a quick "click and done" type game. The lead-up scenes in the car are interesting as well, and I can only assume are far more immersive with sound working. I didn't know I had to turn around at first, but once I did, I was able to see the driver holding up a photo of my suspect, which obviously helped during target aquisition and disposal! ;) Overall, I'd say this is a rough game, but one that shows real promise. Due to steam's odd black and white choice regarding my opinion, I'm going to say I would recommend it, although I'm not sure if I would have been happy with my choice for the price. Given the issues, this game should probably be sold for less than what Sinn Studios is asking, but if it were working 100%, and there were more randomization in the setups and locations, it'd be eminently worth it.
I'm surprised so many people seem to really hate the game. I have to say the game isn't that bad. It is a little more EA though than a fully finished product. I would say wait to catch it on sale, or wait for a few updates to get the kinks out. Unless you like sniper games specifically. In which case you will probably like this one. The aiming seems fine. I don't seem to encounter the aiming issues that people are talking about. There are some clipping issues that need to be resolved when you are looking through a scope, and you can clip through the vehicules when they are driving around. That could be addressed. I did have an a few issues when doing the car missions when you are shooting out the back of the truck. A few times I have been clipped through the floor, and found myself under the car while it's driving around. I don't know if that has been fixed in the latest update. Sure the missions are similar. After all you are a sniper (assassin). So your job is to kill people. If you ever played Silient Scope in the arcade then you will probably like this game. If you aren't a fan of that type of game you might find this a little boring.
The game has really unintuitive controls. The levels are really boring and one dimensional. Ran into multiple clipping issues. The car animations are really bad.
