It's hard to recommend this title as it does things a typical metroidvania doesn't. Wayforward usually makes great games but they seem to cash in on The Mummy franchise but made little to no story to it. As you play a non-nameless solider in the game. Control, sound, and music are all spot on. The retro vibes are there. You can even fling grenades upwards! Two things really hurt this game: No healing stations at save points. You have to grind your health to full. The game took me roughly 6 hours to complete (it honestly felt longer), but with grinding for health - that ate alone 45 minutes of game time. The death mechantic could be a deal breaker for some, as when you die, similar to hollow knight, you gotta go kill your husk to get certain things that. But in this? You have to get EVERYTHING back and your clone has goodies too. Some platforms and enemies that have the zoomies can frustrate some players as well. Overall though, the game isn't that hard and bosses were not super tough as your character overall getting killed is unlikely, even if you're bad at platformers or this genre. Even the escape sequence made no sense - and field of visions is bad and no timer when trying to escape. Still medicore game and doesn't feel like The Mummy in any shape or form. Get it on sale if you can but there are better metroidvanias out there. 4 / 10
A good movie tie-in game?!
Even without Tom Cruise, this is surprisingly a very good Metroidvania. It deserves to be mentioned alongside some of the best movie tie-in games, such as:

GoldenEye 007
Spider-Man 2
The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers
The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King
X-Men Origins: Wolverine
Do NOT pick this as your first Metroidvania game, enemies are super hostile even from the very beginning, like how NES Metroidvania used to be. If you are a hardcore / old school Metroidvania player, sure, doesn't hurt to give it a try. (Kinda does, actually, it hurts my feelings.) My point still stands, do not pick this as your first Metroidvania game. ------------------------- There's your TLDR ------------------------- You have a "Hey Look Listen" boss acting as your guide. The main weapons you get are guns, with ammo count, there are better weapons, but they all still have ammo count. (Yes, there are ammo upgrades) Bunch of questionably designed enemies. Some layouts of the map are questionable too. I constantly find some places where I bonked my head and drop all the way down to the bottom. Oh yeah, there are some Rogue-Like elements in it too. If you died, you will have to go back to that same spot to kill your old self, to get some things back. The game will feel better once you get the "No-Knockback" and "'Attack Boost" Even better if you have the "Ultimate Weapon" (Not the actual name). But I'm pretty sure those are meant to be for the later half of the game, so get exploring. Bosses are fun, but final boss and the final sequence after that was definitely underwhelming. This game reminds me of another game called "Alien: Infestation", and that game was not very good. "Get Good" does not justify a bad design.
Decent game for a 1 day play. Felt like it tried some things that remind me of Super Metroid. Only thing that came off annoying is the knockback stun and falling off platforms so often as a result. Especially during the post final boss fight while rocks fall through platforms and seem to auto target you every time while you are attempting to reach the helicopter for finish the game.
God bless you, God bless all Metroid Like Games.
If you've played a lot of Metroid and Castlevania games, you'll be able to tell what inspired the creators of this game quite easily. Sometimes way too easily. In my short playthrough, I could point to a specific game (like SOTN from PS1 or Metroid from SNES) the particular screen or setup was influenced by. But what it doesn't take from the aforementioned games is the degree of care that went into the movement and level design. This feels horrendous to play. Moving around feels clunky and imprecise, and the level design makes the janky controls even more frustrating. It's chaotic and hectic in the worst possible way. Way too clunky for me to enjoy.
