I don't know how to classify this game. As some have noted, it's not so much a game as an educational movie-like experience, though I did find there were far more game-like elements than some give it credit for. The appeal lies mostly in learning of another culture through a visual medium that emphasizes said culture. I loved learning of the three worlds and the moosemen, and watching the myths unfold on my screen. Thoroughly enjoyed my walk through this esoteric series of worlds and switching moose mode on and off just to see how the world around responds to that. Only part that almost had me rage-quit was the vakul. It was SO frustrating to try and figure out how the hell it kept seeing me even though I was hiding under a branch. Millimeter work, that part, and I still don't know how I got through it. All in all a worthwhile experience, especially on sale, and moreso if, like me, you thoroughly enjoyed Black Book and wanted to discover more games by these devs. You can tell there's great respect for the culture their games are based on. And I for one really enjoy playing games with Russian voiceovers when it's a language I never hear anywhere. Extra culture points ftw.
I wish I could recommend it. Lovely art style. Exposure to a cool culture. Decent music. It just doesn't work well as a game though. Extremely basic and sometimes very clunky gameplay. The presentation is not very good, and some of the time I was just struggling with UI because menus were not even working right.
cool

Gorgeous and really interesting art style, the music was nice too (except for one part where the beautiful instrumental music cuts out at an awkward place and loops). One major problem I found was that it only had partial controller support so I could control the character with the controller but to go to the menus I had to use the keyboard, which sucked and made gameplay kinda awkward. On top of that I was unable to click or choose any of the items/myths in the inventory/collection, so I couldn't learn about the myths as i discovered the items and lit the totems. I imagine this probably would have made the experience that much more enjoyable if the menus were actually functional. Not sure why that was the case for me but it did take away from the overall experience. Despite that, it's still a really well done game with a few fun puzzles and a cool mechanic where you go in-between the spirit world and mortal world by use of a mask. It's more of a slower paced game where you focus on enjoying the story and art. Great atmosphere too, slightly spooky. Despite the frustrations with the menus and partial controller support id still recommend this one.
