The Miskatonic

A humorous and comedic interpretation of the Cthulhu Mythos, featuring charming and entertaining characters set against a dark, madness-filled atmosphere. Although the short story length and sudden endings, which leave players wanting more, are somewhat disappointing, the intriguing plot and witty dialogue make for a thoroughly enjoyable experience. 광기 가득한 크툴루 신화의 희극적 해석.

The art is great. The text is fantastic. This is a great webcomic I would love to flip through on webtoons. This is not a game. There is no interaction, there are no interesting choices. This is just a webcomic being sold through steam. The pricepoint is fine for what it is, if you're interested in it, and it is worth reading.. but I have to downvote it because its misleading to sell it as a game. You go in excited, reading everything, getting into the atmosphere.. wondering when the prologue will end.. ok.. we're still in prologue... wait.. *sigh* And yes, it does have a little disclaimer about it being a 'visual novel', but I've played a lot of visual novels over time. And 'visual novel' doesn't by default mean 'no interaction'. A lot of them play out as choose-your-own-adventure. Those that do are 'games' (series of interesting choices). Those that don't, like this, are comics. Steam isn't where I expect to buy comics.

[/i] “The Miskatonic,” which was heavily inspired from one of H.P. Lovecraft’s realms of extraterrestrialism—depicts a point-and-click visual novel of how Charlotte Le’Strange, a covern witch that wishes all kindness and goodwill—managed to transform Miskatonic University with her witch-charmed eyes. While it tries to encapsulate several noticeable characters from Lovecraftian lore (such as the Yog-Sothoth from “History of the Necronomicon” and Cthulhu from “The Dunwich Horror”), the game still manages to incorporate dark humor, sensual gestures like “American Pie” and “Scary Movie”, and philosophical whims fitting for a Young Adult genre. [h3] Inside the Miskatonic University [/h3] The ‘gameplay’ doesn’t require any special mouse skills, as it only wants you to point on certain characters and posters to pop up additional dialogue. It’s a visual novel at its core—minus the several options that could affect the outcome of the story, making this a direct, linear type of visual novel. Despite the lack of flexibility in controlling the story outcomes, the artwork and the jazz-steampunk background music make the reading experience more immersive. The animation has the right blend of quirkiness and gloom—and while there are some sensual scenes and actual BOOB FLASHING—it is mild enough not to be considered as an x-rated version of Lovecraft’s art. (In which I could take back most especially if you read closely the steamy narration between Charlotte’s interaction to the “pulsating tube of” tentacle chamber…) [h3] Additional suggestions [/h3] The open-ended resolve makes me hope that this visual novel will have an additional DLC or a newer version with actual situation-changing options and dialogues that could change the outcome of the timeline. But for its price, it can provide two to three hours of immersive reading—it's worth purchasing, especially if you have an appetite for witches, All-Mother, Yog-Sothoth, and the other creatures that celebrate the Cthulhu Mythos.

Cute and creepy VN with a great art style. For $1? Um, 100% worth it.

You know a lot of people are complaining about it not being a game but a visual novel, and I GET THAT. I too bought this thinking it was going to be a point and click adventure. But you know what? The world and the story telling and characterization won me over. 30 minutes in and I haven't made a single choice or decision, and yet. Totally going to dive in tomorrow. Worth the money, but expect Rudy Bloom or Emily the Strange meets Call of Cthullu,, not Fran Bow

A pretty good game. Has a cliffhanger ending tho. But still good, love it.

8/10 Те, кто читал некоторые из моих предыдущих рецензий, должны хорошо знать, каким поклонником Лавкрафта я являюсь. Естественно, я не могу пройти мимо такого сочетания космического ужаса, неописуемого визуала и неименуемого сюжета. Удивительное. Игра, чье прохождение отнимает от силы 2,5 часа, внезапно оказывается органичным сочетанием сразу нескольких жанров. С сюжетной точки зрения - понятно, что игровым жанром является визуальная новелла. Во-первых, это тотальная пародия на лавкрафтовый миф, созданный руками далеко не одного автора. И обыграно это все в ключе черной (порой угольно черной) комедии. И чем больше вы читали мастера и его последователей, тем больше шуток и интересных концепций вы будете понимать. Чего только стоит судьба бедного Ктулху. Эта часть сделана круто. Во-вторых, это что-то вроде производственной (научной?) драмы. Когда я начал читать эту новеллу, у меня начались мощные флешбеки на НИИЧАВО из повести "Понедельник начинается в субботу". А чуть позже стал вспоминаться еще и пратчеттовский Незримый Университет. Местные персонажи ни на секунду не дадут вам забыть то, что они самоотверженные ученые, примеряющие рациональные методы и практическую жилку к тому самому космическому ужасу, что их окружает, что они передовой отряд человечества, который только и может спасти его в этой темной версии вселенной. В-третьих, жанрово перед нами так называемый боди-хоррор, что для Лавкрафта вообще не очень характерно. Его проявления в мелочах выглядят прикольно: все эти мутации сотрудников, живой барьер и т.д. Но в этом жанре прячется и главная слабость игры - вокруг боди-хоррора построен весь центральный сюжет игры, и эта история слишком примитивна, проигрывает буквально любым мини-историям игры на литературной базе. Как с сериалом по "Песни Льда и Пламени" - покуда шли в канве повествования Мартина, все было отлично, но попытка развить сюжет самостоятельно обернулась убожеством. Плюсы. - Я вообще обожаю, когда визуальные решения визуальных новелл далеко уходят от привычной манга-стилистики. Тут рисовка очень оригинальная. И даже огромные глаза главной героини объясняются вполне рационально; это не условность, они реально такие. - Музыка вплетается в атмосферу органично. - Мир победившего Лавкрафта показан просто шикарно в мелочах. Особенно мне зашла невзначай мелькающая на фоне карта мира. Что? Новый континент? Этим авторы не ограничились, описав, как разнообразно космический ужас отразился на уголках планеты. Бедные австралийцы! - Даже сцену после титров завезли, не упустите! Минусы. - Имейте в виду, что английский язык тут местами злобный. Авторы жонглируют акцентами, метафорами и культурными стереотипами. Нужно быть в теме, чай, не в симулятор свиданий играем. В общем, игра стоит совершенно смешные деньги. Настолько, что я даже не вижу смысла ждать каких-то распродаж, она заслуживает полную цену. Если вы любите Лавкрафта и черный юмор, а уровень английского минимум В2, это произведение просто обязательно к покупке.

Um novel curtinho que zoa com lovecraft, piadas gratificantes que tornam o game divertido e aprovado. Terminará mais rapido que espera.

This is actually a graphic novel more than a game. There isnt really much you can do which is not followong the storyline. Having said this, it is hilarious as you take the viewpoint of The Little Witch Which Ruined Everything :D For a few cents it is a no brainer...
